Job Overview: The WASH Specialist position at UNICEF focuses on the development and management of water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) programs. Duties and Responsibilities:
Develop and plan WASH programs that align with UNICEF's strategic objectives and the needs of the target population.
Manage and monitor the implementation of WASH programs, ensuring timely delivery of results and adherence to quality standards.
Provide specialized technical support for civil works related to water supply and sanitation, including designing, preparing bills of quantities (BOQ), cost estimation, and supervising ongoing construction works.
Certify completed works and ensure quality assurance throughout the project lifecycle.
Prepare for and respond to humanitarian WASH needs in emergencies, coordinating with relevant stakeholders and partners.
Build and maintain partnerships with government agencies, NGOs, and community organizations to enhance WASH program effectiveness.
Contribute to knowledge management and capacity building initiatives within the organization and among partners.
Monitor and evaluate program outcomes, utilizing data to inform decision-making and improve program delivery.
Required Qualifications:
A first university degree in Civil Engineering, specifically in water supply and sanitation engineering.
An additional post-graduate degree in relevant fields such as Water Supply Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Sanitary Engineering, Structural Engineering, Construction Management, or Business Administration (MBA) is an advantage.
A minimum of two years of professional work experience in WASH-related programs, particularly in designing and constructing WASH infrastructure.
At least one year of hands-on experience in humanitarian WASH response in complex contexts.
Strong skills in rural and urban water supply and sanitation, including sustainability practices, and knowledge of national government WASH policies and strategies.
Educational Background: Candidates must possess a first university degree in Civil Engineering, with a focus on water supply and sanitation. A post-graduate degree in related fields is highly desirable and will enhance the candidate's qualifications for the role.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of two years of professional experience in WASH-related programs, particularly in developing countries. Candidates should have experience in designing and constructing WASH infrastructure, as well as at least one year of hands-on experience in humanitarian WASH response in complex contexts.
Languages: Fluency in Arabic and English is required for this position. Knowledge of another official UN language (such as Chinese, French, Russian, or Spanish) or a local language is considered an asset and may enhance the candidate's profile.
