Job Overview:
The position of Guard is crucial for ensuring the safety and security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security of NRC personnel, buildings, and properties. The Guard will be stationed at the Maungdaw office and will be responsible for monitoring the premises, conducting regular patrols, and responding to any security incidents. The role requires vigilance and the ability to act swiftly in emergencies, ensuring that all visitors and staff adhere to security protocols. The Guard will work in shifts, maintaining a constant security presence and will report directly to the Support Officer. This position is vital for maintaining a safe environment for NRC operations and requires a proactive approach to security management.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Patrol assigned areas to ensure the security of NRC’s personnel, buildings, and properties.
  • Watch for and immediately report irregularities and potential dangers, such as fire or water hazards or the presence of unauthorized persons.
  • Inspect perimeter defenses such as gates, doors, fences, lighting, and barbed wires to ensure they are intact and not tampered with.
  • Reduce the impact of any attack carried out against the NRC compound by warning occupants, calling for assistance, and assisting with evacuation or other reactions as required.
  • Attend the main gate at all times to deter unauthorized entry and to allow entry and exit only for authorized persons or vehicles.
  • Check the reliable legal identity (ID) of all visitors and log their entry and exit in the Visitors Book.
  • Ensure visitors meet the person whom they are visiting and maintain a record of all staff and visitors within the compound at any given time.
  • Receive and screen deliveries of mail/packages and other items, logging all deliveries and handing them to the Admin Department.
  • Ensure proper handover to the replacement guard through the Line Supervisor. 1
  • Maintain office compound cleanliness daily. 1
  • Ensure that communication equipment is operational and that necessary equipment such as torches with batteries is available when taking up duty. 1
  • Record minor incidents around the office compound or outside in the occurrence book and report to the line supervisor. 1
  • Maintain a Log Book to record all items that enter and leave the office, registering the date and time of the activity, along with the name of the NRC person involved. 1
  • Keep the compounds clean and tidy during duty hours. 1
  • Fulfill other related tasks assigned by the supervisor.

Required Qualifications:
  • Experience working as a Guard in a humanitarian or recovery context.
  • Previous experience in complex and volatile environments.
  • Documented results related to the position’s responsibilities.
  • Good communication skills and basic English knowledge.
  • Ability to support teamwork and collaborate effectively with others.

Educational Background:
A minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent is required for this position. Additional training or certifications in security management or related fields would be advantageous.

Experience:
Candidates should have prior experience working in security roles, particularly in humanitarian settings. Experience in managing security in challenging environments is preferred, along with a proven track record of maintaining safety and security protocols.

Languages:
Fluency in Burmese is mandatory. Basic English language skills are preferred to facilitate communication with international staff and visitors.

Additional Notes:
The position is full-time and requires constant coverage, with guards working in three different shifts: day, evening, and night. The personnel will be rotated among these shifts. The contract duration is up to December 2024, and the organization has a strict policy against sleeping on duty, which is considered a serious violation of security protocols. Any guard found sleeping on duty may face disciplinary action, including suspension or termination of contract.
