Job Overview:
The GET.transform project is a technical assistance program designed to aid public sector partners in their efforts to transform the energy sector. This program is recognized internationally as a hub of expertise, focusing on critical areas of the energy transition, including energy planning, regulation and markets for both on-grid and off-grid systems, and the integration of renewable energy into existing grids. The project particularly emphasizes support for countries in Africa and Latin America, helping them establish favorable conditions for large-scale clean energy deployment. As an intern, you will be stationed in Bonn and will work closely with the communications manager and a vibrant team that spans multiple countries, including Belgium, Chile, Central America, Germany, Eswatini, Lesotho, Mozambique, Namibia, Peru, Uganda, and Zimbabwe. Your role will involve supporting various communication and project management activities within the GET.transform initiative, contributing to the overall mission of facilitating energy sector transformations.

Duties and Responsibilities:
During your internship, you will be responsible for a variety of tasks that are crucial to the success of the GET.transform project. These tasks include:
  • Supporting the development of diverse communication materials such as factsheets, presentations, illustrations, and videos that effectively convey project messages.
  • Drafting engaging and informative copy tailored for different channels, target groups, and formats, including website articles, newsletter items, and social media posts.
  • Assisting with project management tasks across GET.transform’s various workstreams and focal countries, which may involve convening internal meetings, updating lists, and taking minutes.
  • Conducting research and analysis related to energy topics, focusing on areas such as policy, private sector investment, capacity development for energy, job creation, decentralized renewable energy, and gender issues, particularly in the context of Africa.
  • Researching and procuring imagery from external databases or assisting in processing and editing image material provided by others.
  • Liaising with service providers, including web design and printing services, to ensure high-quality outputs for communication materials.

Required Qualifications:
To be considered for this internship, candidates must possess a Bachelor's degree in Communications, Social or Political Sciences, Development/Energy Studies, or a related field. Additionally, candidates should have a solid understanding of the role of energy in sustainable development and climate change mitigation. Familiarity with energy contexts in Africa or Latin America is considered an advantage. Proficiency in MS Office, particularly in PowerPoint and Excel, is essential. Graphic design skills using software such as Photoshop, Illustrator, Canva, or other editing tools are highly desirable. Excellent communication skills, especially in writing, are crucial for this role.

Educational Background:
Candidates must have a Bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as Communications, Social or Political Sciences, Development/Energy Studies, or similar disciplines. This educational background is essential to ensure that the intern has the necessary theoretical knowledge and understanding of the complexities involved in energy and development issues.

Experience:
The internship is designed for individuals who are currently enrolled as students or have graduated no more than six months prior to the start of the internship. This requirement ensures that candidates are fresh in their academic knowledge and can apply their learning in a practical setting. Previous experience in communications, project management, or energy-related fields is beneficial but not mandatory.

Languages:
Fluency in English is required for this position, as it is the primary language of communication within the team and for the project outputs. Additionally, proficiency in German, French, or Spanish is considered a plus, as it may enhance communication with diverse stakeholders and partners involved in the project.
