Job Overview: As the Deputy Area Manager (DAM) for HI in Gaza, you will play a crucial role in supporting the Area Manager in implementing the organization's operations and strategic objectives in the region. Your responsibilities will include overseeing the operational scale-up of emergency responses, ensuring effective leadership in the absence of the Area Manager, and enhancing operational readiness and coordination. You will be instrumental in developing emergency readiness plans and liaising with external stakeholders to represent HI's interests and operations. This position requires a proactive approach to managing challenges in a volatile environment, particularly in light of the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Gaza.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Develop and implement operational strategies for HI's activities in Gaza, ensuring alignment with the organization's overall mission and objectives.
Lead emergency readiness initiatives and contingency planning to prepare for potential escalations in the humanitarian crisis.
Manage and lead teams effectively, providing guidance, training, and support to ensure high performance and morale.
Represent HI externally, engaging with local authorities, partners, and other stakeholders to advocate for the needs of affected populations.
Facilitate access and liaison efforts to ensure the safety and security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security of staff and operations in Gaza.
Exercise delegated authority in decision-making processes and represent the organization in various forums and discussions.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a solid background in humanitarian emergency responses, with at least three years of experience in similar roles such as Area Manager or Operations Manager. Experience in security management is essential, along with strong skills in team training and coaching. The ability to manage stress effectively in high-pressure situations is also a critical requirement for this position.
Educational Background: A relevant degree in humanitarian studies, international relations, or a related field is preferred. Additional certifications in emergency management or security management would be advantageous.
Experience: The ideal candidate should have a minimum of three years of experience in humanitarian operations, particularly in emergency response settings. Experience in managing teams and leading operations in complex environments is crucial, as is familiarity with security protocols and risk management in crisis situations.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory, both written and spoken. Knowledge of Arabic is highly desirable, as it will facilitate communication with local staff and stakeholders. Additional languages may be considered an asset, depending on the context of the operations.
Additional Notes: This position is unaccompanied and requires the selected candidate to be deployed to Gaza, where security conditions are volatile. The contract duration is for six months, starting as soon as possible, with a potential extension based on operational needs. The compensation package includes a gross monthly salary starting from €2813, per diem rates depending on the location, and additional hardship allowances while in Gaza. Benefits include medical coverage, unemployment insurance for EU nationals, a pension scheme, and paid leave of 25 days per year. Housing will be provided collectively by HI.
