Job Overview: The Grants and Partnerships Associate will play a crucial role in supporting the CHAI Senegal program team in managing grants and local partnerships. This position requires a highly motivated individual who can work independently and demonstrate a strong commitment to delivering results. The Associate will be responsible for multitasking and making informed decisions regarding data analysis, grants management, and monitoring and evaluation of local partners. The role involves direct collaboration with CHAI country teams and government partners, reporting to the director" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Country Director. The successful candidate will need to possess excellent communication, organizational, and cultural skills, as they will be working closely with both global and national partners to ensure the effective management of grants and partnerships.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Grants and Partnerships Associate will have a comprehensive set of responsibilities, including: reviewing all donation letters, independent contractor agreements, and memoranda of agreement from a financial management perspective before signing with partners or contractors; suggesting negotiation points and analyzing their impact; developing, implementing, and monitoring a local sub-grant management approach; creating a tracking system to monitor the progress of new agreements with partners and ensuring proper record-keeping; developing grants tracking to monitor existing partners’ performance and compliance; making regular visits to partners’ offices to monitor their financial management systems and verify payments; reviewing and analyzing grant expenses and variances in consultation with the supervisor to advise partners on expenditure trends and potential issues; ensuring compliance with donor regulations in all grant transactions and processes; building trusting relationships with partner organizations; keeping the HR and Finance Manager informed on major compliance issues and challenges while taking corrective steps; providing technical support to country programs and the Country Director to monitor all grants and ensure timely reporting; and assisting the Senior HR and Admin with procurement, asset monitoring, and updating the vendor list.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s degree with at least 5 years of relevant work experience, or a Master’s degree with a minimum of 2 years of experience in compliance, data analysis, budgeting, and partner management. Familiarity with donor compliance frameworks, such as those from USAID and the Global Fund, is essential. Candidates should have excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to synthesize complex ideas and present them clearly to diverse audiences. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills are required, along with experience using qualitative and/or quantitative data to inform strategy and implementation. The ideal candidate will be highly organized and detail-oriented, capable of managing multiple workstreams and meeting deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Self-motivation and the ability to work independently in unstructured settings with limited guidance are crucial. Strong interpersonal skills and a collaborative mindset are necessary for building relationships and navigating multicultural teams.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field, such as public health, international development, or a related discipline. A Master’s degree is preferred, particularly for candidates with less work experience. The educational qualifications should align with the responsibilities of managing grants and partnerships effectively.
Experience: The position requires a significant level of experience, specifically a minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience for candidates with a Bachelor’s degree, or at least 2 years of experience for those with a Master’s degree. This experience should be in areas such as compliance, data analysis, budgeting, and partner management, demonstrating a strong understanding of the complexities involved in managing grants and partnerships in a health-related context.
Languages: Full proficiency in English and French is mandatory for this position.
