Job Overview:
The National Consultant – Data Art Curator will play a pivotal role in the implementation of the Data Art Exhibition organized by UN Women in Kyrgyzstan. This position involves leading the conceptual development and artistic coordination of the exhibition, which aims to merge gender data with artistic expression. The Curator will work closely with artists from Central Asia to create data-driven artworks that address critical themes related to gender equality. The role requires a deep understanding of gender issues, data utilization, and the ability to translate complex narratives into accessible formats for diverse audiences. The Curator will also facilitate events during the exhibition, ensuring that the narratives of gender data are effectively communicated and engaged with by the public, policymakers, and civil society.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The National Consultant will be responsible for several key activities:
  • Finalizing the Exhibition Catalogue and Supporting Materials, including curatorial guidance on visual identity and thematic coherence.
  • Preparing for the Data Art EXPO by finalizing the Concept Note, preparing the agenda for the opening ceremony and related events, and collaborating with the Historical National Museum on the exhibition layout.
  • Implementing and executing the Data Art EXPO, which includes facilitating the opening ceremony, conducting guided tours, and submitting a final report on the exhibition's outcomes. The Consultant will ensure that all technical and logistical elements are in place for a successful exhibition, including sound, lighting, and accessibility considerations.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s degree in Art History, Curatorial Studies, Cultural Studies, Gender Studies, Social Sciences, or a related field. They should have a minimum of 9 years of experience in curating or managing art exhibitions, particularly with a focus on gender equality or social justice. Proven expertise in developing curatorial concepts and narratives that align with feminist principles is essential. Strong analytical, communication, and facilitation skills are required, along with the ability to work collaboratively with various stakeholders.

Educational Background:
A Bachelor’s degree in relevant fields such as Art History, Curatorial Studies, Cultural Studies, Gender Studies, or Social Sciences is required. This educational background should provide a solid foundation in understanding the intersection of art, culture, and gender issues, which is crucial for the role of Curator.

Experience:
The position requires at least 9 years of demonstrated experience in curating, coordinating, or managing art exhibitions. Candidates should have a strong track record of developing and delivering exhibition narratives that resonate with themes of gender equality and social justice. Familiarity with the socio-cultural context of Central Asia and gender equality issues in the region is highly advantageous.

Languages:
Fluency in Russian, both oral and written, is mandatory for this position. A working knowledge of English is considered an asset, as it may facilitate communication with international stakeholders and enhance the Consultant's ability to engage with broader audiences.

This consultancy is home-based, allowing for flexibility in work arrangements. The position is expected to be full-time, with specific deliverables and timelines outlined for the successful execution of the Data Art Exhibition.
