Job Overview: The Field Coordinator (FC) is a crucial representative of Solidarités International at the field level, tasked with proposing and implementing strategies tailored to the geopolitical and humanitarian context of the Gojjam area in Ethiopia. The FC is responsible for ensuring that projects align with the organization's charter and internal procedures, mobilizing necessary resources, and overseeing team security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security. The role involves opening a new base, launching programs, and supporting the Head of Base in their transition while ensuring adherence to SI's standards. The FC also engages in representation and communication with NGOs, local authorities, and civil society, participates in humanitarian forums, and ensures operational information is effectively shared across teams.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Field Coordinator's duties include:
Representing Solidarités International in the intervention zone for NGOs, local authorities, and civil society.
Proposing and implementing operational strategies based on the humanitarian context.
Ensuring project compliance with SI's charter and internal procedures.
Coordinating and supervising teams, ensuring their security and well-being.
Organizing regular base meetings and facilitating communication of key operational information.
Monitoring and analyzing the security situation, providing briefings for new arrivals, and managing security incidents.
Participating in team recruitment and ensuring good working conditions.
Promoting SI's ethics and values, and ensuring adherence to human resources policies. 1
Guaranteeing the appropriate use of resources in the intervention zone.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a Master’s Degree in humanitarian/development studies, social sciences, management, or a related field. Additionally, they should have at least 5 years of experience in the humanitarian sector, with 0-2 years in a similar position. Technical skills required include experience in base opening, managing security constraints, working with local authorities, capacity building, and strong reporting abilities. Proven management skills, excellent communication, and organizational abilities are also essential. Familiarity with SI's sectors of expertise (WASH, FSL, Shelter) is advantageous.
Educational Background: A Master’s Degree in humanitarian/development studies, social sciences, management, or a related discipline is required for this position. This educational background is crucial for understanding the complexities of humanitarian work and effectively managing programs in challenging environments.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of 5 years of experience in the humanitarian sector, with 0-2 years in a similar role. This experience should include working in environments with strong security and access constraints, as well as familiarity with administrative regulations and coordination with local authorities. Previous experience in Ethiopia is considered an asset.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory for this position. Knowledge of Amharic is considered an asset, as it would facilitate communication and engagement with local communities and authorities.

The role is full-time and involves significant responsibilities, including opening a new base and launching programs in a new area. The compensation package includes a starting salary of EUR 3080 gross per month, a monthly per diem of USD 400, and coverage for accommodation and travel expenses. Expatriates also benefit from a comprehensive insurance package covering healthcare expenses and essential vaccinations. Living conditions are generally good at the capital level, but may be more challenging in the field due to security concerns.
