Job Overview: The Vanuatu Community-based Climate Resilience Project (VCCRP) is the largest locally led climate adaptation project in the Pacific, supporting communities across all six provinces of Vanuatu. The project aims to strengthen resilience against climate change by implementing scalable, locally driven adaptation actions, supporting government and civil society to enable local-level adaptation, and promoting collaboration among communities, government, civil society, and the private sector. As the security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Food Security & Livelihoods Sector Lead, you will be responsible for the day-to-day management and coordination of the food security components of the project, ensuring effective implementation and high-quality outputs. This role is crucial in driving program impact through well-planned implementation and supporting improved community climate resilience in 282 communities across Vanuatu.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Lead the day-to-day management and coordination of the food security components of the VCCRP, ensuring effective implementation and timely outputs.
Act as the key focal point for all project-related food security matters, interfacing with all implementing partners and stakeholders, including relevant Ministries and Community Disaster Climate Change Committees.
Seek and utilize technical input from consultants and project partners to inform the implementation of food security-related program activities.
Ensure that food security project components are technically sound and consistent with national and global strategies.
Manage and mentor interns and staff in line with organizational performance management expectations to build capacity and empower team members.
Monitor performance, manage complex budgets, and ensure compliance with donor, government, and organizational requirements.
Collaborate with a wide range of stakeholders to achieve results and support multi-partner project coordination.
Required Qualifications:
Extensive experience managing complex, multi-stakeholder, multi-location food security, livelihoods, agriculture, or climate change programs in Vanuatu.
Strong understanding of climate change adaptation, resilience, and/or mitigation approaches in the Pacific.
Proven ability to work in a multi-partner project environment and support collaboration to achieve results.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and collaborate with a diverse range of stakeholders, including government bodies, donors, and local communities.
Ability to multi-task, work under pressure, meet tight deadlines, and manage stress effectively.
Educational Background: A relevant degree in agriculture, environmental science, climate change, or a related field is required. Advanced degrees or certifications in program management or related areas will be considered an asset.
Experience: A minimum of 5 years of experience in program management, particularly in food security, livelihoods, agriculture, or climate change sectors. Experience working with government agencies and local communities in Vanuatu is highly desirable.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory. Knowledge of Bislama or French is considered an asset and would be advantageous for communication with local stakeholders.
Additional Notes: This is a full-time contract position for 2 years with the possibility of extension. The role is based in Port Vila, Vanuatu.
