Job Overview: The Contracts Engineering Manager will play a crucial role in managing the construction components of various projects under the Sustainable Green Pathways & Inclusive Growth portfolio. This position involves overseeing the implementation of engineering projects aimed at enhancing solid waste management infrastructure and services in Jordan. The manager will work closely with the UNDP team, government officials, and local communities to ensure that projects are executed efficiently and sustainably. The role requires a strong understanding of project management, technical oversight, and stakeholder engagement to achieve the desired outcomes of the projects.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Lead construction project management by guiding and supporting on-site supervision of construction projects, reviewing shop drawings, methodologies, inspecting works, and certifying payments.
Assist in the technical approval process and project management by applying project management skills to support the management of relevant contracts.
Plan procurement and tendering processes, manage contracts, and oversee construction bids.
Develop, review, and monitor annual work plans for projects, reporting to UNDP program management and development partners as needed.
Ensure environmental management of projects by following up on relevant studies and assessments.
Support the Project Manager and Head of Environment Pillar in other construction or environmental projects as required.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess an advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in Civil Engineering. Alternatively, a first-level university degree (bachelor’s degree) in Civil Engineering, combined with an additional two years of relevant experience, will be considered. A minimum of five years of relevant work experience is required for those with a master’s degree, while seven years is required for those with a bachelor’s degree. Proven knowledge of risk assessment concepts, contracts, and construction management of complex projects is essential. Professional certifications in project management, such as PMP or RMP, are highly desirable, along with competency in project management tools like MS Project or Primavera.
Educational Background: An advanced university degree (Master’s degree) in Civil Engineering is required. Alternatively, a first-level university degree (bachelor’s degree) in Civil Engineering, along with two additional years of relevant experience, will be considered in lieu of a master’s degree. This educational background ensures that candidates have the necessary technical knowledge and skills to manage engineering projects effectively.
Experience: Candidates should have a minimum of five years of relevant experience in managing the implementation of civil engineering projects, including supervision and design. Experience in large-scale projects, particularly in the public sector in Jordan, is preferred. The role requires a strong understanding of project management principles and the ability to navigate complex project environments.
Languages: Fluency in both Arabic and English is required for this position. This bilingual proficiency is essential for effective communication with stakeholders, government officials, and local communities involved in the projects.
