Job Overview: The National UN Youth Volunteer will work under the direct supervision of the Programme Specialist and receive technical guidance from the Planning & Monitoring Specialist. This role involves providing technical support in developing and reviewing work plans, emergency preparedness, and response plans. The volunteer will assist in designing and updating monitoring tools and methodologies to ensure accurate data collection. Regular field visits will be conducted to monitor program implementation, track progress, and collect data on program outcomes and challenges. The volunteer will also compile and synthesize data to provide actionable insights to support planning efforts and monitor the performance of Third-Party Monitoring firms. Additionally, the volunteer will assist in humanitarian response efforts, information management, capacity building, and governance support, contributing to UNICEF's mission of promoting child rights and improving the lives of children in Sudan.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Programme Planning and Monitoring: Provide technical support in developing and reviewing work plans and emergency response plans. Assist in designing monitoring tools and conduct field visits to monitor program implementation. Collect and analyze data for key program indicators and synthesize data for actionable insights. Monitor Third-Party Monitoring performance and ensure adherence to standards.
Humanitarian Response and Emergency Preparedness: Assist in gathering critical information on populations affected by emergencies. Participate in assessment missions and monitor humanitarian indicators.
Information Management and Coordination: Support overall coordination functions, organize meetings, and assist in data collection and analysis. Maintain information management systems and ensure data is disaggregated for effective reporting.
Capacity Building and Technical Support: Provide technical support and organize training sessions for UNICEF staff and partners.
Governance Support: Facilitate dialogue between UNICEF and government counterparts to support child-focused governance initiatives.
Additional Responsibilities: Provide general assistance to the Planning and Monitoring team and participate in relevant meetings and workshops.
Required Qualifications: Candidates should possess strong technical capabilities relevant to UNICEF's operations, including discretion, political sensitivity, and the ability to liaise with various stakeholders. A high degree of autonomy, personal initiative, and resourcefulness are essential. Candidates must demonstrate professionalism, integrity, teamwork, and respect for diversity. They should also have effective organizational and problem-solving skills, excellent communication abilities, and a genuine commitment to voluntary engagement principles.
Educational Background: A bachelor's degree in social sciences, development studies, or a related field is required. Candidates with advanced degrees or specialized training in monitoring and evaluation, humanitarian response, or child rights governance will be preferred.
Experience: Candidates should have a minimum of one year of relevant experience in program planning, monitoring, and evaluation, preferably in a humanitarian or development context. Experience working with UN agencies or NGOs is an advantage. Familiarity with data collection methodologies and monitoring tools is essential.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory. Knowledge of Arabic or other local languages is considered an asset and will enhance communication with local stakeholders and communities.
Additional Notes: This position is a full-time role with a focus on volunteerism. The living conditions in Kadugli may be challenging due to the volatile security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security situation and limited access to services. Volunteers should be prepared for basic accommodation and limited healthcare options. The role may involve travel within the area of operations, and volunteers are encouraged to engage with local communities and promote voluntary action.
