Job Overview:
The internship-position" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">internship position within the Peacebuilding Support Office (PBSO) is designed to provide support to the Front Office, focusing on South-to-South Cooperation Initiatives. The intern will engage in various tasks that include conducting background research, performing data analysis, and drafting meeting summaries. The role is primarily in-person at the United Nations premises in New York, but it can be adjusted to accommodate part-time or remote work based on the intern's needs. The internship is unpaid and requires a commitment of 35 hours per week, although there is flexibility to reduce hours to 20 per week if necessary. The expected duration of the internship is six months, starting as early as July 1, 2025.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The intern will be responsible for a range of duties, including: 1) Supporting PBSO's initiatives on South-to-South Cooperation through research, data analysis, and document preparation. 2) Assisting in the preparation of analytical materials related to peacebuilding, including drafting meeting summaries and supporting engagements of senior officials. 3) Participating in UN mechanisms and coordination platforms to promote a coherent approach to peacebuilding. 4) Assisting in the coordination and management of outreach efforts, organizing meetings and events. 5) Performing other related duties as required by the office.

Required Qualifications:
Applicants must meet one of the following criteria: (a) be enrolled in or have completed a graduate school program (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in or have completed the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent). While professional work experience is not required, a field of study closely related to the internship is necessary. Candidates must be students in their final year of a bachelor’s program or have completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Ph.D. program.

Educational Background:
Candidates should be pursuing or have completed a degree in a field relevant to the internship, such as international relations, peace studies, social sciences, or a related discipline. Proof of enrollment or completion of the degree program must be provided during the application process.

Experience:
No prior professional work experience is required for this internship. However, candidates should demonstrate relevant academic experience or coursework that aligns with the responsibilities of the internship. This could include research projects, volunteer work, or other academic engagements that showcase the candidate's skills and commitment to the field of peacebuilding.

Languages:
Fluency in spoken and written English is mandatory for this internship. Knowledge of an additional official UN language, such as French, Arabic, Chinese, Russian, or Spanish, is considered an advantage.
