Job Posting Organization:
UN Human Rights in Moldova is dedicated to assisting the UN Country Team in Moldova, as well as local authorities, the judiciary, parliament, national human rights institutions, and civil society. The organization focuses on providing technical advice and capacity-building activities aimed at protecting, respecting, fulfilling, and mainstreaming human rights within the country. The mission is to ensure that human rights are upheld and integrated into all aspects of governance and societal norms.

Job Overview:
The position of Online Volunteer involves developing visual materials that illustrate various forms of discrimination that are prevalent in Moldovan society. This role is part of a broader project titled 'Strengthening the rights of minorities in the Republic of Moldova,' which is funded by the European Union. The project aims to raise public awareness about the importance of promoting equality, non-discrimination, and human rights principles. Volunteers will work under the guidance of a Human Rights Officer to create up to five digital illustrations that depict discrimination faced by different groups in areas such as employment, education, and access to public services. These illustrations will be utilized in exhibitions, educational events, and on branded products, thereby playing a crucial role in the organization's outreach and educational efforts.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate with the Human Rights Officer to understand the specific forms of discrimination that need to be illustrated.
  • Develop up to five digital illustrations that accurately depict the identified forms of discrimination.
  • Ensure that the illustrations are culturally sensitive and resonate with the local context.
  • Submit the illustrations for review and incorporate feedback as necessary.
  • Maintain communication with the UN Human Rights team throughout the project to ensure alignment with organizational goals.
  • Participate in any necessary training or briefing sessions provided by the organization.
  • Adhere to deadlines and deliver high-quality work that meets the expectations of the UN Human Rights team.

Required Qualifications:
  • Proficiency in digital illustration tools and software.
  • Strong understanding of human rights issues, particularly related to discrimination.
  • Ability to convey complex ideas visually in a clear and impactful manner.
  • Experience in creating educational or advocacy materials is an asset.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a remote environment.

Educational Background:
A background in graphic design, visual arts, or a related field is preferred. Candidates should have a strong portfolio showcasing their illustration work, particularly in social issues or advocacy-related themes.

Experience:
Previous experience in creating illustrations for social causes or human rights advocacy is highly desirable. Familiarity with the context of Moldova and its societal challenges related to discrimination will be beneficial.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory. Knowledge of Romanian or Russian is a plus, as it will help in understanding the local context and communicating effectively with the target audience.

Additional Notes:
This is a volunteer position, and the duration of the contract is not specified. The role is remote, allowing volunteers to work from anywhere. The illustrations created will be the property of UN Human Rights, and proper attribution will be given to the authors. Volunteers will gain valuable experience in human rights advocacy and contribute to meaningful social change.
