Job Overview: The Consultant for MICS 2025 will oversee the implementation of the Multiple Indicator Cluster Surveys (MICS) in Cameroon, which is a critical tool for collecting data on the situation of children and women. The consultant will be responsible for ensuring that the survey is conducted efficiently and effectively, adhering to established timelines and quality standards. This role involves coordinating with the National Institute of Statistics and other stakeholders, managing the data collection process using Computer-Assisted Personal Interviewing (CAPI), and ensuring that the data collected is reliable and of high quality. The consultant will also be expected to provide technical assistance and training to field staff involved in the data collection process, and to prepare comprehensive reports on the findings of the survey.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Supervise the planning and execution of the MICS 2025 in Cameroon, ensuring adherence to timelines and quality standards.
Coordinate with the National Institute of Statistics and other partners to facilitate the survey process.
Manage the data collection process using CAPI, ensuring that data is collected efficiently and accurately.
Provide technical assistance and training to field staff involved in the survey.
Analyze the data collected and prepare reports on the findings, ensuring that they meet UNICEF's standards for quality and accuracy.
Ensure compliance with ethical standards and guidelines in the conduct of the survey.
Engage with stakeholders to disseminate findings and promote the use of data for policy and program development.
Required Qualifications:
A Master's degree or higher in Demography, Statistics, Social Sciences, Epidemiology, or a related technical field is required.
A Bachelor's degree in a relevant field with two additional years of professional experience may be accepted in lieu of a Master's degree.
A minimum of five years of experience in coordinating and/or managing quantitative household surveys, with previous experience in MICS or Demographic and Health Surveys (DHS) being highly desirable.
Strong computer skills and expertise in statistical analysis, particularly with data processing and analysis software such as SPSS.
Experience in data collection using CAPI and in training and facilitating workshops.
Proven experience in data analysis and report writing.
Experience working in developing countries and/or knowledge of emergency situations is an asset.
Excellent oral and written communication skills in both French and English are required.
Educational Background: Candidates must possess a higher university degree (Master's or above) in Demography, Statistics, Social Sciences, Epidemiology, or any other relevant technical field. A first university degree in a relevant field combined with two additional years of professional experience may be accepted in lieu of a higher degree.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of five years of relevant experience in the coordination and management of quantitative household surveys. Experience with MICS or DHS is specifically requested, along with strong analytical skills and familiarity with statistical software. Previous experience in developing countries or emergency contexts is considered an advantage.
Languages: Fluency in both French and English is mandatory, with excellent oral and written communication skills in both languages being essential for the role. Knowledge of additional languages may be considered an asset but is not required.
