Job Overview:
The Capacity Building Assistant will play a crucial role in supporting the development and implementation of training programs related to blue carbon ecosystems, specifically focusing on mangrove and seagrass for climate projects. Reporting to the Blue Carbon Governance Specialist and collaborating with training development experts, the assistant will be responsible for writing training modules that establish baselines for these ecosystems and methodologies for monitoring, reporting, and verification (MRV). The role involves engaging with stakeholders to conduct training and capacity-building initiatives, both online and offline. The assistant will also contribute to WRI's commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion by integrating these principles into their work and organizational culture. This position requires creativity, research, and analytical skills to identify new opportunities for capacity building and support the overall goals of the blue carbon project.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Capacity Building Assistant's primary responsibilities include:
  • Training Development (70%): - Support blue carbon experts in identifying and capturing relevant methodologies for baseline and MRV used in Indonesia or internationally for blue carbon ecosystem projects. - Assist in identifying priority stakeholders for capacity building based on research conducted by the blue carbon team. - Draft training modules on blue carbon ecosystem baseline and MRV, under expert review. - Prepare, implement, and report on training programs (both online and offline). - Communicate with external actors regarding capacity building development. - Utilize creativity and analytical skills to identify new opportunities. - Support the writing and finalization of project reports, particularly on capacity building. - Contribute to drafting the Blue Carbon Road Map, focusing on capacity building. - Handle administrative aspects of the blue carbon project implementation.
  • Engagement (30%): - Facilitate capacity building engagement with stakeholders at national and sub-national levels. - Coordinate with the communications team to produce communication products, media coverage, and conduct media interviews to disseminate research findings. - Engage with government institutions and third parties to meet project requirements, including data collection, technical discussions, dissemination, and fundraising for collaborative research projects.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s degree in natural resources management, environmental science, forestry, or related fields. They should have a minimum of three years of experience in writing documents and engaging in capacity building programs. Experience working with stakeholders, including government agencies, NGOs, or local communities in training or facilitation roles is essential. A basic understanding of Monitoring, Reporting, and Verification (MRV) concepts is required. Proficiency in Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.) is necessary, along with good writing and communication skills, particularly in planning and supporting training activities. Familiarity with or interest in Indonesian climate land-use, especially blue carbon issues, coastal ecosystems, or climate-related programs is preferred. Candidates must be self-motivated, detail-oriented, and organized, capable of managing multiple priorities and working under tight deadlines. Willingness to travel to project sites for field investigations and stakeholder coordination is also required.

Educational Background:
The educational requirement for this position is a Bachelor’s degree in natural resources management, environmental science, forestry, or other related fields. This educational background is essential to ensure that the candidate has the necessary knowledge and skills to effectively contribute to the blue carbon project and its associated training programs.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of three years of relevant experience, particularly in writing documents and engaging in capacity building programs. Candidates should have experience working with various stakeholders, including government agencies, NGOs, or local communities, in training or facilitation roles. This level of experience is crucial for effectively supporting the development and implementation of training programs and engaging with diverse stakeholders.

Languages:
Fluency in both verbal and written English and Bahasa Indonesia is mandatory for this position. Proficiency in these languages is essential for effective communication with stakeholders and for the preparation of training materials and reports. Additional language skills may be considered an asset but are not required.

This position is a part-time, limited-term consultancy contract with a duration from July 1, 2025, to December 31, 202
  • The consultant will be compensated based on a daily rate, with a maximum of 96 working days for the entire contract period, averaging 16 working days per month. Candidates must have authorization to work in Indonesia to be eligible for this position. Final candidates may be required to take a writing test and provide two writing samples if needed. The position is locally engaged, and Indonesian nationals are encouraged to apply.
