Job Overview:
The Senior Regional HR Business Partner (HRBP) position is a critical role within Mercy Corps, working closely with the Regional HR Director to provide effective HR business partnering across the East and Southern Africa Regional Office and its country teams. This role is responsible for executing complex HR business support for various Mercy Corps programs, ensuring a positive and equitable employment experience for team members in the region. The Senior Regional HRBP acts as a resource for the Regional HR Director, collaborating with leaders and managers to align with global and regional HR initiatives. This position emphasizes the importance of well-being, duty of care, and proactive problem-solving to maximize the impact of the People Team. The Senior HRBP will oversee administrative and operational tasks, ensuring compliance with Mercy Corps regulations and local labor laws, while also setting goals and KPIs for the regional HR department.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Senior Regional HRBP will advocate for proactive people-focused policies that align with Mercy Corps’ strategic priorities and promote a positive organizational culture. They will stay updated on trends in global human resource management, particularly in the humanitarian aid sector, and collaborate with various stakeholders to co-create solutions for systemic challenges. The role involves managing complex employee relations issues, conducting thorough investigations of complaints, and ensuring compliance with legal requirements. The Senior HRBP will also develop relationships with leadership teams to facilitate joint problem-solving and strategic planning, support performance management processes, and assist in business unit restructuring and succession planning. Additionally, they will oversee the performance appraisal management process, conduct exit interviews, and provide guidance on compensation issues.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must have a minimum of 8 years of experience as a Human Resources Generalist, with a strong background in talent management, employee relations, and compensation and benefits in diverse international markets. Experience as an HR Business Partner is highly preferred. A BA/BS in Human Resources, Business Administration, Social Sciences, or a related field is preferred, along with professional certification in Human Resources Management. Proficiency in English is required, and knowledge of other major languages such as French or Arabic is preferred. Candidates should demonstrate strong analytical skills, interpersonal skills, and a history of providing excellent customer service. Experience in international or insecure environments is also essential, along with the ability to maintain confidentiality and manage workload effectively in a remote work arrangement.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes a BA/BS degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Social Sciences, or a related field. A professional certification in Human Resources Management is also preferred, indicating a commitment to the field and a level of expertise that is beneficial for the role.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of 8 years of experience in Human Resources, specifically as a Generalist with a focus on talent management, employee relations, and compensation and benefits. Experience in consulting management practices as an HR Business Partner is highly preferred, as is experience working in international or insecure environments. Candidates should have a demonstrated ability to manage complex HR issues and provide effective solutions in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.

Languages:
Proficiency in English is mandatory for this position, as it is the primary language of communication within the organization. Additionally, knowledge of other major languages such as French and/or Arabic is considered a valuable asset, enhancing the candidate's ability to communicate effectively in diverse environments.

This position is based in Nairobi, Kenya, and may require travel to support country programs, including travel to locations that may be insecure or have limited amenities.
