Job Overview:
The Graphic Design Consultant will play a crucial role in supporting UNICEF's Data and Analytics Section (D&A) by providing graphic design services for various data products related to mortality and demographics. This position requires a creative professional who can conceptualize, design, and produce high-quality publications that effectively communicate UNICEF's data insights. The consultant will collaborate with D&A focal points to ensure that the design aligns with UNICEF's branding and standards. The role involves working on data-driven publications, advocacy materials, and thematic reports, all of which require a strong understanding of data visualization and publication design. The consultant will be responsible for producing visually appealing and informative materials that will be used for global monitoring and reporting, ultimately contributing to evidence-based policy and programmatic efforts.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Conceptualize and design a data publication on child mortality, including layout and graphics, ensuring it meets UNICEF's standards.
  • Create a publication on stillbirth definitions, focusing on effective visual communication.
  • Develop advocacy materials, including brochures and flyers, to promote awareness of mortality and stillbirth issues.
  • Update country consultation materials in four languages, ensuring clarity and accessibility.
  • Design IDAC briefs and thematic reports, incorporating visual elements that enhance understanding of complex data.
  • Produce newsletters that effectively communicate key information and updates related to UNICEF's work.
  • Collaborate with various stakeholders to gather input and feedback on design concepts and final products.
  • Ensure timely delivery of all design outputs according to specified deadlines.

Required Qualifications:
  • At least a Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in graphic design, communications, or related social sciences.
  • Minimum of 15 years of work experience as a designer, with a specialization in publication layout/design and data visualization.
  • Proven experience in creating infographics, data figures/charts, and other data-driven products.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator) and Microsoft Office (PowerPoint, Word, Excel).
  • Strong ability to conceptualize and execute design projects that effectively communicate complex data.

Educational Background:
Candidates must possess at least a Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in graphic design, communications, or a related field. This educational background is essential to ensure that the consultant has the foundational knowledge and skills necessary for effective graphic design and communication.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of 15 years of professional experience in graphic design, particularly in publication layout and data visualization. This extensive experience is crucial for the consultant to effectively handle the complexities of designing data-driven materials that meet UNICEF's high standards.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, with additional proficiency in French, Spanish, and Russian being advantageous. The ability to communicate effectively in multiple languages will enhance the consultant's ability to produce materials that are accessible to diverse audiences.

The consultancy is remote and will last from June 2025 to May 31, 202
  • The consultant will be required to submit a financial proposal that outlines costs per deliverable and total fees for the assignment. UNICEF will cover any emergent travel costs and daily subsistence allowances if applicable. Selected candidates must have valid health insurance coverage and will undergo background checks to verify credentials and employment history. The position does not confer staff member status, and consultants are responsible for their tax liabilities. Additionally, candidates must confirm their fully vaccinated status against COVID-19, although this requirement does not apply to those working remotely.
