Job Overview: The position of UN Volunteer in Communication and Advocacy within the WHO/AFRO Emergency Preparedness and Response (EPR) Cluster is crucial for enhancing the visibility and impact of the organization's initiatives. The volunteer will be responsible for developing and disseminating content that highlights the achievements and ongoing work of the EPR program. This includes creating articles, press releases, and success stories, as well as managing social media channels and the JEAP website. The role requires strategic planning to finalize communication plans and brand management, ensuring that the messaging aligns with WHO's objectives. The volunteer will also coordinate outreach efforts to inform donors and the public about EPR activities, thereby contributing to the overall mission of strengthening health emergency management in the region.
Duties and Responsibilities: The UN Volunteer will undertake a variety of tasks, including:
Content Creation: Develop technical and non-technical articles, press releases, and success stories to promote EPR work.
Strategic Planning: Finalize the communication plan for the Joint Emergency Action Plan (JEAP) and evaluate regional communication strategies.
Digital Management: Oversee EPR social media assets and ensure the JEAP website is up-to-date.
Capacity Building: Support the creation of an ambassadors network and deliver training for EPR staff on communication and media sensitization.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills, adaptability, and flexibility. Excellent interpersonal and networking abilities are essential, along with creativity and sound judgment. Professionalism and self-management are also key attributes for this role, ensuring effective communication and collaboration within the team and with external stakeholders.
Educational Background: A background in communications, public health, or a related field is preferred. Candidates should have a solid understanding of health communication principles and practices, as well as experience in developing communication strategies and content for diverse audiences.
Experience: The position requires prior experience in communication roles, particularly in public health or emergency response contexts. Familiarity with media relations and digital communication strategies is highly desirable. Experience working in international organizations or NGOs is a plus, as it demonstrates an understanding of the complexities involved in health emergencies and the importance of effective communication.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory, while proficiency in French is highly desirable, given the regional context of the position. Knowledge of additional languages relevant to the region may be considered an asset.
