Job Posting Organization:
The United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) is a regional development arm of the United Nations Secretariat. Established to promote sustainable and inclusive development and regional connectivity in the Asia and Pacific region, ESCAP supports its member states with policy-oriented research, normative support, technical assistance, and capacity building. The organization focuses on responding to the development priorities and changing needs of the region, working towards the attainment of internationally agreed development goals, including the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Job Overview:
The internship-position" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">internship position at ESCAP, specifically within the Centre for Sustainable Agricultural Mechanization (CSAM) based in Beijing, China, is designed to enhance technical cooperation among member states of ESCAP and other interested United Nations member states. The internship is unpaid and requires a full-time commitment, with a minimum duration of two months, extendable up to six months. Interns will work five days a week, totaling 37.5 hours, under the supervision of a staff member. The role is intended for individuals who are either currently enrolled in or have completed a graduate program or are in their final year of a bachelor's degree. Interns will engage in various tasks that align with their background and the needs of the organization, contributing to ongoing projects and gaining valuable experience in the field of sustainable agricultural mechanization.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Interns will be responsible for a variety of tasks that may include, but are not limited to: providing support to ongoing projects, assisting in social media outreach efforts, offering administrative support, working on presentations, and consolidating and sorting data. The specific duties will depend on the intern's background and the duration of their internship, allowing for a tailored experience that aligns with both the intern's skills and the organization's needs.

Required Qualifications:
Applicants must meet one of the following qualifications: (a) be enrolled in or have completed a graduate school program (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or (b) be enrolled in or have completed the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent). This ensures that candidates possess the necessary academic background to contribute effectively to the organization.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this internship includes either a graduate degree or being in the final year of a bachelor's degree program. This requirement is aimed at ensuring that interns have a solid foundation in relevant fields of study, which may include agricultural sciences, social sciences, environmental studies, or related disciplines that align with the mission of ESCAP and the specific focus of the CSAM.

Experience:
While specific prior experience is not mandated, candidates are expected to have relevant academic knowledge and skills that can be applied in a practical setting. The internship is designed to provide hands-on experience, and thus, any previous internships, volunteer work, or academic projects related to sustainable development, agricultural mechanization, or international relations would be beneficial.

Languages:
Fluency in English is required for the internship program, as it is one of the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Knowledge of French is also advantageous, as it is another working language of the organization. Proficiency in additional languages may be considered a plus, depending on the specific projects the intern will be involved in.

Additional Notes:
The internship is unpaid, and interns are responsible for their own travel, visa, accommodation, and living expenses. Interns who are not citizens or permanent residents of China may need to obtain the appropriate visa and work authorization before starting the internship. It is important for successful candidates to discuss their specific visa requirements with the organization prior to accepting the internship offer. Additionally, the United Nations does not charge any fees at any stage of the recruitment process, ensuring that the application process is free from financial burdens.
