Job Overview:
The internship position is designed for individuals interested in gaining practical experience in the field of international tax and development cooperation. Interns will work under the supervision of a staff member in the ITDCB, contributing to the branch's efforts in supporting the UN Committee of Experts on International Cooperation in Tax Matters. The role involves assisting in the development of guidance on tax policy and administration issues, as well as implementing capacity development programs related to financing for sustainable development. The internship is full-time and unpaid, with a minimum duration of two months, and the possibility of extension up to six months. Interns are expected to work five days a week, totaling 35 hours, and may have the option for a Flexible Work Arrangement (FWA) depending on their circumstances.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Interns will have a variety of responsibilities, including but not limited to: assisting in drafting, reviewing, and preparing papers, presentations, studies, reports, and other relevant documents; attending and summarizing conference proceedings and meetings, including virtual meetings; providing assistance during meetings; conducting research, compiling, and analyzing information on various tax matters such as double tax treaties, transfer pricing, tax base erosion and profit shifting (BEPS), and taxation of the digitalized economy; preparing briefing notes, talking points, and speeches for senior UN officials; following intergovernmental meetings and preparing draft summaries; and assisting with any other ad hoc assignments related to the branch's work.

Required Qualifications:
To qualify for the internship, applicants must meet one of the following criteria: be enrolled in or have completed a graduate school program (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or be enrolled in or have completed the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent). Additionally, applicants must be computer literate in standard software applications. While professional work experience is not required, a field of study closely related to the internship is necessary.

Educational Background:
Applicants must be students in the final year of their first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), or enrolled in or have completed a Master’s or Ph.D. program. Proof of enrollment or completion must be provided during the application process, and an official certificate will be required at a later stage.

Experience:
No prior professional work experience is required for this internship. However, candidates should have relevant academic experience or coursework related to international tax, development cooperation, or similar fields.

Languages:
Fluency in spoken and written English is required for the internship. Knowledge of an additional official UN language, such as French, Arabic, Chinese, Russian, or Spanish, is considered an asset, as English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat.

Additional Notes:
The internship is unpaid and full-time, with a minimum duration of two months and the possibility of extension. Interns are responsible for their own travel, visa, accommodation, and living expenses. Those who are not citizens or permanent residents of the country where the internship is located may need to obtain the appropriate visa and work authorization.
