Job Overview: The Vehicle Technician role is crucial for maintaining the operational readiness of the UNMISS vehicle fleet. The incumbent will be responsible for performing both scheduled and unscheduled maintenance and repairs on standard civilian pattern vehicles (SCPV). This includes ensuring that all repairs adhere to the manufacturer's standards and that safety procedures are strictly followed. The technician will work under the supervision of the Officer in-charge (OIC) of the Light Duty Workshop in Juba, contributing to the overall efficiency and safety of the mission's transport operations. The position requires a proactive approach to diagnosing and resolving mechanical, electrical, and electronic issues in vehicles, ensuring that all mission vehicles are safe and reliable for use in various operational contexts.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Vehicle Technician will carry out a variety of duties, including but not limited to: servicing and repairing the mission's fleet of vehicles, equipment, and trailers according to manufacturer standards; diagnosing and rectifying mechanical, electrical, and electronic faults on light and heavy vehicles; conducting vehicle inspections and producing detailed reports on servicing and repairs; operating recovery trucks and material handling equipment; checking and testing wiring and parts using diagnostic tools; assisting in identifying required parts; servicing and maintaining the electronic vehicle monitoring system; ensuring a clean and safe working environment; and performing any other tasks as assigned by the OIC. The technician must demonstrate professionalism, teamwork, and effective communication skills while working collaboratively with colleagues to achieve organizational goals.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a valid national driving license and a high school diploma or equivalent. A relevant training in Automotive Engineering or a related field is desirable. The role requires a strong understanding of vehicle maintenance and repair processes, as well as the ability to work with various diagnostic tools and equipment. Candidates should demonstrate a commitment to safety and quality in their work, along with the ability to follow detailed instructions and procedures. Professionalism, effective communication, and teamwork are essential attributes for success in this position.
Educational Background: A high school diploma or equivalent is required for this position. Additionally, candidates with a relevant training background in Automotive Engineering or a related field will be preferred. Experience: Candidates must have at least three years of progressively responsible experience in motor vehicle fault diagnosis, service, maintenance, and repairs, or in a related field. This experience should demonstrate a solid understanding of vehicle systems and the ability to perform complex repairs and maintenance tasks. For candidates who possess a first-level university degree or higher, the minimum required experience is reduced to one year. Experience working in an international organization or non-governmental organization is considered an asset, as it indicates familiarity with the operational context of the United Nations and its standards.
Languages: Fluency in oral and written English is required for this position, as English is one of the working languages of the United Nations. Knowledge of French is also beneficial, as it is another working language of the UN. Proficiency in additional languages may enhance a candidate's application but is not mandatory.
