Job Overview: The Project Assistant will play a crucial role in supporting the implementation of a project aimed at enhancing the protection, regularization, and socio-economic integration of migrants and refugees from Venezuela and other nationalities in Latin America. The successful candidate will work under the supervision of the Chief of Mission and the National Project Officer, focusing on coordinating activities that facilitate the integration of migrants and refugees in Epitaciolândia, Acre State. This position requires a proactive approach to identifying protection needs, maintaining accurate records, and providing administrative support for various project activities. The Project Assistant will also engage with local authorities and service providers to ensure that migrants receive the necessary support and documentation.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Assist in the timely and effective implementation of field activities related to the project.
Observe and respect IOM Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) concerning documentation, integration, and protection of migrants.
Identify protection needs and refer cases to appropriate government institutions as per IOM guidelines.
Maintain up-to-date electronic databases and detailed records of all activities.
Provide administrative support for participatory approaches, needs assessments, monitoring, and reporting, focusing on individuals with specific needs.
Liaise with competent authorities for the issuance of personal and other relevant documents.
Develop a mapping of referral services and collect information on service access, providing regular updates.
Train and orient partners and service providers on assisting migrant populations.
Support monitoring and reporting processes on documentation, integration, and protection activities, preparing regular reports in line with IOM’s data protection principles. 1
Carry out documentary procedures for obtaining or renewing residency in Brazil in collaboration with Brazilian authorities. 1
Provide support for local missions, project implementation, and integrated activities on behalf of IOM, as needed. 1
Conduct information sessions on IOM activities for various audiences. 1
Assist colleagues in field activities upon request from coordination. 1
Perform other duties as necessary.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a High School diploma with three years of professional experience, or a University Degree in Social Sciences, Law, Public Policy, Human Rights, Population Studies, Intercultural Studies, International Relations, or related fields, with at least two years of professional experience. Additional training in humanitarian action is considered an asset. Candidates should have experience working in diverse teams and familiarity with international migration and migration regularization procedures is preferred. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications is required.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes a High School diploma or a University Degree in relevant fields such as Social Sciences, Law, Public Policy, Human Rights, Population Studies, Intercultural Studies, International Relations, or related areas. The degree must be from an accredited institution recognized by the UNESCO World Higher Education Database. Candidates with additional training courses related to humanitarian action will have an advantage.
Experience: The position requires candidates to have experience working in a team environment with colleagues from diverse cultural and professional backgrounds. Previous experience in international migrations and migration regularization procedures is a significant advantage. Proficiency in Microsoft Office software is also necessary, as the role involves maintaining records and preparing reports.
Languages: Proficiency in Portuguese and Spanish is mandatory, and candidates will be evaluated on these languages during the selection process, which may include written and/or oral assessments. IOM’s official languages are English, French, and Spanish, and knowledge of these languages may be beneficial but is not required for this position.
Additional Notes: This position is subject to local recruitment, and only candidates holding a valid residence and work permit for Brazil will be considered.
