Job Posting Organization: The INGO Forum was established in 2009 as a key representation platform for International Non-Governmental Organizations (INGOs) operating in Sudan. The forum currently comprises 51 members and 17 observers, working across the country, including in some of the most challenging areas. The INGO Forum plays a crucial role in coordinating humanitarian efforts, advocating for improved response conditions, and engaging with various stakeholders, including donors and UN agencies. It is a permanent member of the Humanitarian Country Team (HCT) and co-leads the Humanitarian Access Working Group (HAWG) alongside OCHA. The forum's mission is to enhance operational alignment among organizations to maximize humanitarian impact, provide essential support and resources, and advocate for improved conditions for humanitarian work in Sudan.
Job Overview: The Information Management Officer position is critical for enhancing the coordination and visibility of NGO work in Sudan, particularly in addressing data gaps, response gaps, and access impediments. The officer will be responsible for collecting and managing data, transforming it into visual products for dissemination, and ensuring regular contributions to inter-agency data collection initiatives. This role involves close collaboration with access and advocacy colleagues, as well as with various data collection units such as REACH/IMPACT and OCHA. The officer will report to the Nairobi-based forum representative and will play a key role in improving the overall information management capacity of the INGO Forum.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Information Management Officer will have a range of responsibilities, including:
Supporting access colleagues in gathering data for monthly visa and BAI trackers.
Regularly updating forum 3Ws and expanding to 5Ws as necessary.
Collaborating with OCHA and other data analysis units to meet information management needs.
Maintaining up-to-date contact lists and ensuring smooth information sharing.
Representing the Forum in information management platforms as appropriate.
Producing response and access dashboards regularly.
Providing maps and visuals as required.
Liaising with the advocacy coordinator to create relevant visuals for communications products.
Complying with security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security procedures and policies as determined by country leadership.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess an undergraduate degree in information management, data visualization, communications, geography, or a related field, or have equivalent experience. Additionally, they should have at least 5 years of relevant experience working with NGOs, the UN system, or other humanitarian/development actors. Mastery of information management and data visualization software such as Kobo, ArcGIS, PowerBI, Excel, and Adobe Creative Suite is essential. Proven experience in managing data sets, designing surveys, and producing dashboards and graphics is required, along with strong data analysis and interpretation skills. Candidates should also demonstrate the ability to manage a diverse workload and prioritize tasks effectively in a complex environment.
Educational Background: An undergraduate degree in information management, data visualization, communications, geography, or a related field is required. Equivalent experience may also be considered in lieu of formal education.
Experience: Candidates should have a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in the humanitarian or development sector, particularly with NGOs or the UN system. Experience in managing data sets, designing surveys, and producing visual products is crucial. Familiarity with current humanitarian trends and issues is also important, as is experience representing organizations in humanitarian coordination platforms.
Languages: Fluency in English, both written and spoken, is mandatory. Working knowledge of Arabic is considered a plus, especially given the context of the position in Sudan.
Additional Notes: This position is based in Nairobi, Kenya, and may involve collaboration with various stakeholders in the humanitarian sector. The role does not have supervisory responsibilities.
