Job Overview: The Driver position within the OHCHR Sudan Country Office in Nairobi involves providing safe and reliable transportation services for authorized personnel. The incumbent will be responsible for driving vehicles, ensuring their maintenance, and assisting with various administrative tasks related to transportation. This role is crucial for facilitating the movement of staff and ensuring that they can perform their duties effectively. The Driver will also be expected to assist with data collection and analysis, contributing to the preparation of reports and presentations. Duties and Responsibilities: The Driver will be responsible for the following duties:
Safely driving vehicles for the transport of authorized personnel.
Collecting and delivering mail, documents, and other items as required.
Meeting official personnel at the airport and facilitating immigration and customs formalities.
Performing day-to-day maintenance of assigned vehicles, including checking oil, water, battery, brakes, tires, etc.
Conducting minor repairs and arranging for other repairs as necessary.
Keeping the vehicle clean and logging official trips, daily mileage, gas consumption, and maintenance activities.
Ensuring compliance with rules and regulations in case of accidents.
Assisting with data collection and analysis, as well as preparing presentations and reports.
Updating information materials such as web pages or brochures. 1
Performing other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Required Qualifications: The position requires a high school diploma or equivalent. Additionally, the candidate must have completed driver training and possess a valid category B and C driver’s license. A strong understanding of driving rules and regulations is essential, along with a good knowledge of the local area and road conditions. The candidate should demonstrate professionalism, effective communication skills, and a client-oriented approach. The ability to work under pressure and maintain a calm demeanor in stressful situations is also important.
Educational Background: Candidates must possess a high school diploma or equivalent educational qualification. This foundational education is essential for understanding the responsibilities associated with the Driver position and for ensuring compliance with safety regulations and organizational policies.
Experience: A minimum of one year of experience as a driver is required, with a proven safe driving record. Candidates should have experience driving various makes and models of vehicles, including vans and other motorized vehicles. Familiarity with vehicle maintenance and repair is also beneficial, as it contributes to the overall efficiency of the role.
Languages: English is the mandatory working language for this position, with a required proficiency level of UN Level II in reading, writing, listening, and speaking.
