Job Posting Organization:
UN Women’s Pacific Office (MCO) is dedicated to addressing gender inequality and empowering women across 14 Pacific Island countries and territories. Established to promote human rights, the organization has been active for over a decade, working with governments and civil society organizations. Despite progress, significant challenges remain, including high rates of gender-based violence and underrepresentation of women in leadership roles. UN Women operates in various Pacific nations, including Fiji, Solomon Islands, and Vanuatu, focusing on governance, economic empowerment, and ending violence against women.

Job Overview:
The Online Volunteer position is designed to support the Gender Coordination Specialist (GCS) at the UN Women Micronesia MCO. The role involves creating and populating Excel templates for data collection, which is crucial for gender analysis and technical assistance in the region. The volunteer will also engage in capacity building to ensure the GCS can maintain the databases independently. This position is vital for enhancing the effectiveness of gender coordination efforts in Micronesia and surrounding areas, contributing to the overarching mission of promoting gender equality and empowering women.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Online Volunteer will be responsible for several key tasks:
  • Develop templates for data collection based on discussions with the GCS and relevant documents.
  • Populate these templates with information as it becomes available, ensuring accuracy and relevance.
  • Provide capacity building support to the GCS, enabling them to manage and maintain the database effectively.
  • Collaborate with the GCS to understand the specific needs for data collection and analysis.
  • Ensure that the templates are user-friendly and adaptable for future use.
  • Assist in the overall organization and management of data related to gender issues in the region.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates should possess strong skills in data management and Excel, with the ability to create and manipulate templates for data collection. Familiarity with gender issues and the context of the Pacific Islands is highly desirable. The volunteer should demonstrate excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, and have the ability to work collaboratively with the GCS and other stakeholders. A proactive approach to problem-solving and a commitment to gender equality are essential.

Educational Background:
A background in social sciences, gender studies, data management, or a related field is preferred. Candidates should have a solid understanding of gender issues and the socio-economic context of the Pacific Islands. Relevant coursework or training in data analysis and management will be beneficial.

Experience:
While specific years of experience may not be required, familiarity with data collection processes and experience in volunteer roles or internships related to gender issues will be advantageous. Previous work with NGOs or international organizations focused on gender equality will be considered a plus.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, as all communication and documentation will be conducted in English. Knowledge of local languages spoken in Micronesia or other Pacific Islands may be considered an asset but is not required.

Additional Notes:
This is a volunteer position, and the duration of the contract is not specified. The role is part-time and can be conducted remotely, allowing for flexibility in working hours. The position is open to international applicants, and there may be opportunities for further engagement with UN Women based on performance and organizational needs.
