Job Overview:
The Consultant Photographer position at UNICEF Myanmar involves providing high-quality photography services for various assignments aimed at documenting the work supported by UNICEF. The consultant will capture significant moments in the lives of children and adolescents, producing visual materials for communication and advocacy purposes. This role requires the consultant to deliver professional photographic coverage of UNICEF-supported programs, focusing on narrative visual storytelling that highlights the experiences of children and families in Myanmar. The consultant will work under the guidance of the Chief of Communication and Advocacy and the Communications Specialist, ensuring that all deliverables meet UNICEF's ethical and visual guidelines. The consultancy is structured as a long-term agreement lasting 36 months, with the initial assignment beginning in June 2025 and renewable based on performance and need.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Consultant Photographer will be responsible for using their own equipment to conduct assignments, pre-selecting a shortlist of the best images, and ensuring that a minimum number of photographs from each assignment are agreed upon. The consultant must submit photographs and/or B-rolls in a digital format suitable for large-size color printing, ensuring compliance with UNICEF’s ethical guidelines. They will also need to provide descriptive captions and/or quotes for all edited photos, ensuring that all necessary consent forms are obtained. The consultant must adhere to security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security measures and obtain clearance from the UNDSS prior to any official travel. The deliverables include submitting photographs with appropriate metadata, ensuring that all images comply with UNICEF’s standards, and providing a memory stick or suitable file share platform for submission.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess at least a secondary education or a professional certificate in photography, communications, journalism, marketing, advertisement, filmmaking, or a related field. A minimum of five years of proven experience in professional digital photography is required, along with demonstrated experience in development, humanitarian, or child rights photography. The consultant should exhibit professional competence and knowledge in these areas, utilizing high-resolution digital camera equipment and possessing good image editing skills. They must be available and willing to travel for assignments, often on short notice, and should be able to work under pressure while respecting cultural contexts and delivering on tight deadlines. Experience working with NGOs, INGOs, and UN agencies is considered an asset.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes at least secondary education or a professional certificate in relevant fields such as photography, communications, journalism, marketing, advertisement, or filmmaking. This educational foundation is essential to ensure that the consultant possesses the necessary skills and knowledge to perform effectively in the role.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of five years of proven experience in professional digital photography, particularly in the areas of development, humanitarian, or child rights issues. This level of experience is crucial for ensuring that the consultant can deliver high-quality photographic services that meet UNICEF's standards and effectively document the organization's work.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory for this position, as it is essential for captioning photographs and communicating effectively with UNICEF staff and stakeholders. Proficiency in additional languages may be beneficial but is not explicitly required.

  • The initial assignment is scheduled for 12 months, with the possibility of renewal based on performance. The assignment is home-based, and any necessary in-country travel will be reimbursed based on actual approved and authorized travel. UNICEF reserves the right to cover travel expenses, which do not need to be included in the proposal.
