Job Overview:
The consultant position is aimed at providing specialized support to UN Women’s initiatives, particularly in the area of women's economic empowerment and care programming. The consultant will work on a retainer basis, contributing to the development of research, knowledge products, and policy mappings related to women's economic empowerment. The role involves supporting the implementation of the Transform Care Investment Initiative in Asia-Pacific, which aims to create resilient care systems and promote gender equality. The consultant will also assist in designing and facilitating workshops, conducting consultations, and providing technical support to country offices. This position is crucial for advancing UN Women’s mission to empower women economically and socially, particularly in the context of unpaid care work and its impact on gender equality.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The consultant will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including but not limited to: providing ad-hoc support for Care Programming and the TransformCare Toolbox; producing research and knowledge products such as concept notes, briefs, and summary reports; conducting literature reviews and policy mappings related to women's economic empowerment; facilitating consultations and workshops; and supporting the implementation of the TransformCare Investment Initiative. The consultant will also be expected to deliver all agreed-upon outputs in a timely manner, ensuring quality and adherence to UN Women’s standards. Communication with UN Women’s HQ and regional offices will be essential for coordinating efforts and ensuring alignment with organizational goals.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Master's degree in relevant fields such as Law, Public Policy, Political or Social Science, Economics, or Gender Studies. Alternatively, a first-level university degree combined with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted. The position requires at least 2 years of experience working with government or policy research in the Asia-Pacific region, with a focus on coordinating research projects. Experience in the care economy, conducting literature reviews, and developing knowledge products with international organizations is also necessary. Familiarity with UN Women and other UN agencies is considered an asset, as is experience in supporting large-scale events related to the care economy.

Educational Background:
A Master's degree in Law, Public Policy, Governance, Political or Social Science, Economics, International Development Studies, or Gender/Women’s Studies is required. A first-level university degree may be accepted in lieu of the advanced degree if accompanied by additional qualifying experience.

Experience:
The consultant should have a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in government or policy research within the Asia-Pacific region, with a strong emphasis on coordinating research projects. At least 1 year of experience specifically related to the care economy is required, along with a proven track record in conducting literature reviews and developing policy recommendations. Experience working with international organizations, particularly in the context of UN Women, is advantageous.

Languages:
A strong command of written and spoken English is mandatory for this position. Knowledge of other official UN languages is considered an asset, enhancing the consultant's ability to engage with diverse stakeholders and contribute to UN Women’s global initiatives.

Additional Notes:
This consultancy is home-based and operates on a retainer contract basis, meaning that while the consultant will be available for assignments, there is no guarantee of work. Payments will be made based on the completion of specific deliverables rather than the number of days worked. The consultant retains the right to decline assignments based on their availability and expertise.
