Job Overview: The director" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Country Director position at Plan International Myanmar is a pivotal role that requires a bold, innovative leader to oversee the organization's operations in a complex environment. The successful candidate will be responsible for driving change and delivering results aligned with the organization's strategic goals. This role involves leading a high-performing team of over 250 staff members, ensuring accountability for meeting demanding targets, and maintaining alignment with the global strategy. The Country Director will advocate for and communicate the needs of girls and vulnerable children at both national and international levels, ensuring that the country operating model is tailored to the unique context of Myanmar. The position also emphasizes the importance of embedding gender equality in all aspects of the organization's work, from staffing to programming and influencing.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Country Director will have a comprehensive set of responsibilities, including:
Leading and managing the country operations of Plan International Myanmar, ensuring effective implementation of the organization's strategy.
Driving programmatic and influencing work, setting overall direction, and ensuring alignment with global strategies.
Advocating for girls' rights and influencing decision-makers at the highest levels of government, civil society, and media.
Ensuring legal compliance and readiness to respond to emergency and development needs of marginalized children, especially girls.
Leading a motivated team, fostering a culture that champions gender equality and inclusivity.
Modifying the delivery model and organizational structure to meet the needs of a transformed entity.
Ensuring that key business processes are in place and that the right funding mix is achieved to support the organization's ambitions.
Engaging with stakeholders to strengthen partnerships and enhance the organization's relevance and distinctiveness in the sector.
Required Qualifications: To be successful in this role, candidates must possess the following qualifications:
Proven experience in leadership roles within complex and fragile contexts, with a strong track record of managing teams and operations in high-risk humanitarian areas.
In-depth understanding of child rights and gender in development concepts, as well as the promotion of girls' rights in accordance with relevant international conventions and global goals.
Familiarity with programming in challenging environments, including an understanding of the historical, security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security, political, economic, social, and humanitarian context in Myanmar or similar settings.
Proven skills in team development and management, including distance management capabilities.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English, with strong networking and negotiation abilities.
Educational Background: Candidates should hold a relevant university degree in development, social science, business administration, or a related field. A strong educational background is essential to understand the complexities of the role and the context in which Plan International operates.
Experience: The position requires significant experience in leadership roles, particularly in complex and fragile contexts. Candidates should have a proven track record of managing teams and operations in humanitarian high-risk areas, demonstrating the ability to navigate challenges effectively and drive positive change.
