This role requires integrating equity into the work and involves collaboration with various stakeholders, including senior officers and communications personnel. The intern will also contribute to the development of strategic documents and support the preparation for international events such as the United Nations General Assembly and the UNFCCC COP3
This position is hybrid, requiring at least 8 days of in-office work per month in Washington DC, and applicants must have existing work authorization.
Duties and Responsibilities: The intern will be responsible for several key tasks, including:
Supporting the newly developed Rapid Deployment Mechanism (RDM) and contributing to the communications strategy related to the RDM and HAC 30x30 Matchmaking Platform.
Maintaining strong engagement with HAC for Nature and People members, particularly those requesting support via the RDM.
Assisting in the preparation and participation of HAC in international events, ensuring effective representation and communication of goals.
Drafting strategic documents for 2026, including the yearly work plan.
Supporting engagement with various Task Forces, including Indigenous Peoples and Local Communities and Subnational Task Forces.
Assisting with outreach activities for the Secretariat as needed.
Conducting stakeholder mapping and analysis for HAC for N&P.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s degree in international relations, diplomacy, biodiversity conservation, environmental studies, project management, or a related discipline. They should have knowledge of the United Nations multilateral system, particularly the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) and UNFCCC, as well as familiarity with relevant NGOs and financial institutions. Strong organizational and communication skills are essential, along with the ability to work collaboratively within a diverse team. Time management skills are crucial for meeting deadlines, and proactiveness and creativity are highly valued. Familiarity with Microsoft 365 Suite and SharePoint is also required, and proficiency in additional languages is considered an asset.
Educational Background: A Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as international relations, diplomacy, biodiversity conservation, environmental studies, or project management is required for this internship position. This educational background provides the necessary foundation for understanding the complexities of international environmental policy and the multilateral systems involved.
Experience: While specific prior experience is not mandated, candidates should demonstrate a strong understanding of the United Nations multilateral system and relevant environmental issues. Experience in project management, communications, or engagement with international organizations would be beneficial. The internship is designed for current students or recent graduates, making it an excellent opportunity for those looking to gain practical experience in the field.

The compensation for this internship is $20/hour for undergraduates, $22/hour for graduates, and $24/hour for PhD students.
