Job Overview:
The Gender and Protection Officer position at WFP is crucial for integrating gender, protection, and disability inclusion into the organization's programs. The officer will be responsible for ensuring that WFP's assistance is safe, dignified, and equitable, particularly for vulnerable populations. This role involves designing and implementing protection risk analyses, coordinating with various stakeholders to uphold WFP's commitments to prevent sexual exploitation and abuse (PSEA), and providing technical guidance on gender-based violence (GBV) cases. The officer will also facilitate community feedback mechanisms and digital literacy training, ensuring that the needs of marginalized groups are addressed in program activities. This position requires a proactive approach to enhance program accountability and promote gender equality within WFP's operations.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Gender and Protection Officer will undertake a variety of responsibilities, including but not limited to: supporting the mainstreaming of gender, protection, and disability inclusion into WFP programs; designing and implementing protection risk analyses and context assessments; coordinating the execution of WFP’s PSEA workplan; providing technical guidance on GBV and PSEA cases; integrating the Gender Equality Accountability for Results (GEAR) framework into the Country Strategic Plan; promoting digital financial inclusion; conducting trainings on gender and protection issues; facilitating community dialogues; monitoring and analyzing data to inform program adjustments; and collaborating with the Communications Team to develop advocacy materials. The officer will also participate in working groups and support the development of donor proposals and reports, ensuring that WFP's commitment to gender equality and inclusion is reflected in all aspects of its work.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess an advanced university degree in disciplines such as Gender Studies, Social Sciences, International Relations, Human Rights, Political Science, Development Economics, or a related field. Alternatively, a first university degree with additional relevant work experience and training may be considered. The position requires demonstrated expertise in key areas related to gender and protection, strong analytical and communication skills, and the ability to work effectively in a multicultural environment. Proficiency in Windows and MS Office applications is also necessary.

Educational Background:
An advanced university degree in Gender Studies, Social Sciences, International Relations, Human Rights, Political Science, Development Economics, or a related field is required. Candidates with a first university degree and additional years of relevant work experience may also be considered. This educational background is essential for understanding the complexities of gender and protection issues in humanitarian contexts.

Experience:
The position requires at least one year of relevant experience for candidates with an advanced university degree, or a minimum of three years of relevant experience for those with a first university degree. Experience in the development or humanitarian field related to protection, gender equity, women’s empowerment, GBV, PSEA, disability inclusion, and digital financial inclusion is essential. Additional experience in food security, nutrition, emergency response, social protection, and disaster risk reduction will be considered advantageous.

Languages:
Fluency in English (level C) and Somali is mandatory for this position. Proficiency in these languages is crucial for effective communication and collaboration with diverse stakeholders and communities in Somalia.
