Job Overview: The Field Coordinator position is crucial in leading the programmatic efforts in Amhara, Ethiopia, particularly in response to the humanitarian crisis affecting Northern Ethiopia. The role involves overall leadership in planning, executing, and coordinating the efforts of team members and stakeholders to deliver projects effectively. The Field Coordinator will manage project objectives, oversee quality control, and ensure compliance with FHI 360’s policies. This position requires the creation of work plans based on project goals, implementation of evidence-based interventions across multiple sectors, and collaboration with various stakeholders to develop integrated work plans and budgets essential for project success. The Field Coordinator will also ensure financial, administrative, and logistical efficiency throughout the project lifecycle, making this role pivotal in addressing the critical needs of affected communities.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Field Coordinator will manage and oversee the development of projects from initiation to completion, ensuring that all operations, administrative tasks, expenditures, and activities outlined in project-related MoUs align with the project’s work plan and budget. Responsibilities include guiding day-to-day project activities with a focus on logistics, finance, and administrative operations. The Field Coordinator will assist in coordinating provincial and regional field presence, manage capacity building for project staff, and provide guidance and monitoring to ensure clarity over project plans and priorities. They will develop best practices and tools for project execution, define project scope and deliverables, and deliver project plans, documentation, training, presentations, and budget proposals. The role also involves identifying and resolving project issues, coaching and mentoring project teams, and building partnerships vital for project success.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess knowledge and application of Core Humanitarian Standards (CHS), Sphere standards, and the Red Cross/NGO Code of Conduct. Experience working with the Bureau of Humanitarian Assistance (BHA) and the US Department of State Bureau of Population, Refugees, and Migration (State/PRM) is preferred. Strong interpersonal skills, leadership abilities, and the capacity to interact professionally with diverse staff and clients are essential. Candidates should demonstrate excellent written and oral communication skills, be well-organized, resourceful, and effective at coordinating multiple resources. A proven track record of managing multiple tasks simultaneously and sensitivity in diverse, cross-cultural settings is also required.
Educational Background: A Bachelor's Degree or its International Equivalent in International Development, Social Sciences, Business Management, or a related field is required. A Master's degree or other advanced degree is preferred, along with certification in project management.
Experience: Typically, candidates should have at least 5 to 8 years of experience in a programmatic environment, including contracts and field experience, with a minimum of three years working with USAID/BHA rules and regulations. Knowledge of financial and contractual management of USAID/BHA contracts and cooperative agreements, including budget design and financial oversight, is essential. Experience in establishing startup operations/projects in new countries is preferred, along with prior work experience in an NGO, government agency, or private company with progressive program management experience in humanitarian assistance or related fields.
Languages: Fluency in English is required, and fluency in the local language is considered a plus. Candidates should be able to communicate effectively in both written and oral forms, participating actively in discussions and group settings.
Additional Notes: This position is open to national candidates only and is based in Weldiya, North Wollo, Amhara. FHI 360 offers a competitive salary and benefits scheme. The role requires the ability to travel 50% throughout Ethiopia and involves physical demands such as the ability to lift 5-50 lbs and travel to remote field sites.
