Job Overview:
The MMC Research Assistant position is integral to supporting the Mixed Migration Centre's research initiatives in Sudan. This role encompasses a variety of tasks that are essential for the successful execution of research projects. The successful candidate will engage in quantitative data analysis, manage enumerators, review surveys, and perform related activities. A key expectation is to ensure data accuracy and quality control while meeting project deadlines. The candidate should possess a strong interest in mixed migration issues and a deep understanding of the experiences faced by refugees and migrants in East and the Horn of Africa, as well as Southern Africa. The MMC provides opportunities for professional development, allowing the Research Assistant to enhance their research skills and migration expertise.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The MMC Research Assistant will be responsible for a comprehensive set of duties, including: working closely with the Information Management Specialist to support quantitative data management needs; reviewing survey tools; supervising enumerators and reviewing incoming data; conducting thorough reviews of quantitative data collected through surveys; providing feedback to enumerators in coordination with team members; ensuring data accuracy, consistency, and completeness; identifying and resolving inconsistencies or errors in the data; recruiting, training, and supervising enumerators to adhere to data collection protocols; monitoring enumerator performance and providing ongoing support; addressing any issues that arise during data collection; supporting targeted outreach and dissemination to key migration stakeholders; assisting in organizing logistics for MMC-organized evidence and learning events; preparing research proposals and reports; contributing to the dissemination of research findings through publications and presentations; supporting MMC’s communications needs; and performing other administrative tasks as assigned.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a BA in social sciences, with specific coursework in migration and qualitative data collection and analysis being highly desirable. An MA or MSc in social sciences is also desirable. At least one year of experience working in quantitative data collection is required, along with excellent writing and editing skills. The ability to synthesize and condense information is essential. Experience in quantitative data collection and supervision is highly desired, as is experience in generating graphs and tables of data using Excel. Previous experience working with international NGOs is considered an asset. Candidates should demonstrate enthusiasm for learning, pushing limits, and finding innovative solutions, as well as strong verbal and written communication skills. A working knowledge of Arabic is necessary, and candidates should exhibit strong attention to detail and rigor in handling qualitative data.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes a BA in social sciences, with a strong preference for candidates who have completed specific coursework related to migration and qualitative data collection and analysis. An advanced degree, such as an MA or MSc in social sciences, is also desirable and may enhance a candidate's application.

Experience:
The position requires at least one year of relevant experience, particularly in quantitative data collection and supervision. Candidates should have a proven track record of working effectively in similar roles, demonstrating their ability to manage data and support research initiatives successfully.

Languages:
A working knowledge of Arabic is mandatory for this position, as the role involves reviewing surveys and data in Arabic. Additionally, proficiency in other relevant languages may be beneficial and is considered a plus.

Additional Notes:
The contract for this position is for six months, with the possibility of extension based on funding and performance. The position is classified under the Non-Management Band/I. The salary is applicable for national candidates. The duty station for this role is in Sudan, and the reporting line is to the Regional Manager of MMC East and Southern Africa.
