Job Overview:
The Public Health Analyst role at CHAI is designed for a highly motivated individual with a background in public health and strong analytical skills. The primary responsibilities include assessing, designing, and scaling up disease surveillance systems, as well as monitoring and evaluating efforts to reduce disease burden and achieve elimination in West and Central Africa, particularly in countries like Benin, Senegal, Cameroon, and Burkina Faso. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with a diverse team across multiple regions and will be expected to communicate effectively with decision-makers. This position requires a commitment to producing results and the ability to work independently while driving implementation. The role also involves significant travel, approximately 50% of the time, to engage with various stakeholders and support program activities.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Public Health Analyst will be responsible for a range of duties including: conducting analyses of malaria and neglected tropical disease (NTD) data, performing retrospective epidemiological assessments, and impact evaluations. The analyst will help cultivate a culture of data use within disease programs by enhancing the quality and analysis of epidemiological data to inform strategic planning and program implementation. They will design and disseminate operational research projects related to disease surveillance and intervention effectiveness, and synthesize results for government partners to support evidence-based decision-making. Additionally, the analyst will implement surveillance projects, support the rollout of new surveillance processes, and contribute to the development of surveillance guidelines and operational manuals. They will also provide technical supervision and training to staff involved in analytics and surveillance activities, represent CHAI at external meetings, and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Master's degree in Public Health, Epidemiology, or a related field, along with at least 2 years of relevant work experience that demonstrates increasing levels of responsibility and leadership. Strong project management skills are essential, including the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while ensuring timely and high-quality deliverables. Knowledge of malaria, NTDs, and other major infectious disease issues is crucial, as is experience in conducting epidemiological surveys and managing surveillance systems. Familiarity with data management and statistical analysis software, such as R or STATA, is also required. The candidate should have exceptional communication skills and the ability to work independently in diverse environments.

Educational Background:
A Master's degree in Public Health, Epidemiology, or a related field is required for this position. This educational background provides the necessary foundation for understanding complex public health issues and the analytical skills needed to assess and improve health programs.

Experience:
The ideal candidate should have at least 2 years of professional experience in public health, with a focus on project management and epidemiological research. Experience in monitoring and evaluating public health programs, particularly in the context of disease surveillance, is highly desirable. Familiarity with working in resource-limited settings, especially in Africa, will be an advantage.

Languages:
Fluency in both English and French is mandatory for this position, as effective communication with local partners and stakeholders is essential. Proficiency in additional languages may be considered an advantage, particularly in the context of working in diverse regions.
