Job Overview: The Humanitarian Access and Security Coordinator will play a crucial role in ensuring the safety of staff and the effective delivery of humanitarian assistance in Nigeria. This position involves assessing security risks, developing security protocols, and coordinating with local authorities and other stakeholders to facilitate access to affected populations. The coordinator will be responsible for implementing security training for staff, monitoring the security situation, and providing timely updates to the management team. The role requires a proactive approach to problem-solving and the ability to work under pressure in a dynamic environment. Duties and Responsibilities:
Conduct regular security assessments and provide recommendations to improve safety measures for staff and operations.
Develop and implement security protocols and guidelines for field operations.
Coordinate with local authorities, UN agencies, and NGOs to facilitate safe access to affected populations.
Provide security training and briefings for staff, ensuring they are well-informed about potential risks and response strategies.
Monitor the security situation and provide timely updates to the management team regarding any changes or emerging threats.
Prepare security reports and documentation for internal and external stakeholders.
Engage in advocacy efforts to promote humanitarian access and compliance with international humanitarian law.
Collaborate with program teams to ensure that security considerations are integrated into project planning and implementation.
Required Qualifications:
Proven experience in security management, preferably in a humanitarian context.
Strong understanding of the security dynamics in Nigeria and the broader West African region.
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to make sound decisions under pressure.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse teams and stakeholders.
Familiarity with international humanitarian law and principles of humanitarian action.
Educational Background: A bachelor's degree in security management, international relations, humanitarian studies, or a related field is required. A master's degree in a relevant discipline is preferred and may be considered an asset.
Experience: A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in security management or humanitarian access, with at least 2 years in a leadership role. Experience working in complex and volatile environments is essential, along with a proven track record of developing and implementing security strategies.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory. Proficiency in local languages spoken in Nigeria is highly desirable and will be considered an advantage.
