Job Overview:
The National Consultant - Disability Inclusion and Accessibility Expert will play a crucial role in enhancing the inclusivity and accessibility of the workplace within the UN Country Team (UNCT) in Nepal. This position is designed to build upon previous initiatives aimed at improving the recruitment and retention of persons with disabilities. The consultant will be responsible for developing actionable strategies and providing training to HR and Operations colleagues, ensuring that the UNCT aligns with the United Nations Disability Inclusion Strategy (UNDIS) and the UNCT Accountability Scorecard on Disability Inclusion. The assignment will span 100 working days over a period of 7 months, during which the consultant will engage with various stakeholders to gather insights and best practices from other countries, ultimately fostering a more inclusive environment within the UN system in Nepal.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The consultant will be tasked with several key responsibilities, including but not limited to:
  • Conducting a comprehensive assessment of current practices related to disability inclusion within UN Nepal.
  • Developing and implementing training programs for HR and Operations staff focused on disability inclusion and accessibility.
  • Collaborating with various UN agencies to share best practices and resources related to the recruitment and retention of persons with disabilities.
  • Creating actionable recommendations for enhancing workplace accessibility and inclusivity.
  • Monitoring and evaluating the effectiveness of implemented strategies and providing feedback for continuous improvement.
  • Engaging with external stakeholders, including disability advocacy groups, to gather insights and foster partnerships.
  • Preparing detailed reports on progress and outcomes related to disability inclusion initiatives.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a strong understanding of disability rights and inclusion practices, with a proven track record in developing and implementing strategies for disability inclusion in organizational settings. Additionally, candidates should have experience working with diverse stakeholders, including government agencies, NGOs, and community organizations. Strong communication and interpersonal skills are essential, as well as the ability to work collaboratively in a multicultural environment. Familiarity with UN policies and frameworks related to disability inclusion is highly desirable.

Educational Background:
A minimum of a Master's degree in Social Sciences, Human Rights, Public Administration, or a related field is required. Additional certifications or training in disability inclusion, accessibility, or related areas will be considered an asset. Candidates should demonstrate a commitment to promoting diversity and inclusion in their professional practice.

Experience:
The ideal candidate should have at least 5 years of relevant professional experience in disability inclusion, accessibility, or related fields. Experience working with international organizations, particularly within the UN system, is highly advantageous. Proven experience in conducting assessments, developing training materials, and implementing inclusive practices is essential for this role.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, both written and spoken. Knowledge of Nepali or other local languages is considered an asset, as it will facilitate better communication with local stakeholders and communities.

Additional Notes:
This position is classified as an individual contractor role, with a contract duration of 100 working days over a period of 7 months. The consultant will be expected to work flexibly, with the possibility of remote work arrangements. Compensation will be commensurate with experience and qualifications, and the consultant will be responsible for their own taxes and benefits. The deadline for submitting proposals is 2 June 2025, and all submissions must be made through the designated supplier portal.
