Job Overview:
The Data Analysis and Statistical support Consultancy position is designed to assist UNICEF in advocating for children's rights and enhancing programmatic results through data-driven insights. The consultant will work within the Monitoring Unit of the Data, Analytics, Planning, and Monitoring Division, focusing on statistical analysis to identify vulnerable children and improve program effectiveness. The role involves developing methodologies for assessing child deprivations and hazards, creating geo-spatial maps, and supporting country offices in evidence-based decision-making. The consultant will collaborate with various teams to ensure that data is utilized effectively to support advocacy and programming efforts.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Guide 6-8 Country Offices (COs) in selecting relevant child rights and socio-economic indicators tailored to their specific contexts.
  • Review, clean, format, and code data for mapping purposes for the selected COs.
  • Develop statistical calculations to determine levels of child vulnerabilities at the sub-national level, focusing on multiple deprivations and hazards.
  • Prepare country presentations and reports for pilot countries, detailing methodologies, analyses, and recommendations for replicating the exercise throughout their program cycles.
  • Collaborate with geo-spatial consultants to automate and roll out the equity analysis base layer, including developing guidance notes and training packages.

Required Qualifications:
An advanced university degree (Master’s or higher) in Statistics, Econometrics, Demography, Economics, or Data Science is required. Candidates must possess expert knowledge of Excel and statistical modeling, experience with statistical packages (e.g., R, SAS, Stata), and a strong background in summary statistics and hypothesis testing. A minimum of 7-10 years of experience in data analysis and reporting is essential, with 5-8 years in developing statistical models considered an asset. Experience working at the country office level is also advantageous. Excellent communication skills in English are mandatory, and proficiency in additional languages is a plus.

Educational Background:
Candidates must hold an advanced university degree (Master’s or higher) in a relevant field such as Statistics, Econometrics, Demography, Economics, or Data Science. This educational background is crucial for understanding complex data analysis and statistical methodologies necessary for the role.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of 7-10 years of experience in data analysis and reporting, with a strong emphasis on statistical modeling and the ability to work with large datasets. Experience in developing statistical models is an asset, as is familiarity with the workings of UNICEF or similar organizations at the country office level.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, with additional languages considered an asset. The ability to communicate effectively in multiple languages can enhance collaboration with diverse teams and stakeholders.
