Job Overview:
The position of Consultant National Spécialiste du Financement de la Biodiversité involves providing specialized expertise in biodiversity financing. The consultant will be expected to work on a project basis, contributing to the development and implementation of strategies that enhance funding for biodiversity initiatives. This role is crucial in ensuring that biodiversity conservation efforts are adequately financed, which is essential for sustainable development. The consultant will collaborate with various stakeholders, including government agencies, NGOs, and international organizations, to identify funding opportunities and develop proposals that align with biodiversity goals. The consultant will also be responsible for analyzing existing funding mechanisms and recommending improvements to enhance their effectiveness in supporting biodiversity projects.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The consultant will be tasked with several key responsibilities, including:
  • Conducting comprehensive assessments of current biodiversity financing mechanisms and identifying gaps and opportunities for improvement.
  • Developing strategic plans for biodiversity financing that align with national and international conservation goals.
  • Engaging with stakeholders to promote awareness and understanding of biodiversity financing needs and opportunities.
  • Preparing detailed project proposals and funding applications to secure financial resources for biodiversity initiatives.
  • Monitoring and evaluating the effectiveness of funded biodiversity projects and providing recommendations for future funding strategies.
  • Facilitating workshops and training sessions to build capacity among stakeholders in biodiversity financing.
  • Reporting on progress and outcomes of financing initiatives to UNDP and other relevant parties.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a strong background in environmental science, finance, or a related field. They should have proven experience in biodiversity financing, including knowledge of funding mechanisms and financial instruments available for conservation projects. Strong analytical skills and the ability to develop strategic plans are essential. Additionally, candidates should demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively engage with diverse stakeholders. Familiarity with UNDP processes and procedures is an advantage.

Educational Background:
A minimum of a Master's degree in Environmental Science, Finance, Economics, or a related field is required. Candidates with a PhD or equivalent experience in biodiversity financing will be given preference. Experience:
The ideal candidate should have at least 5 years of professional experience in biodiversity financing or related fields. Languages:
Fluency in French is mandatory, as the position is based in Chad. Proficiency in English is also desirable, as it may be necessary for communication with international stakeholders. Knowledge of additional languages relevant to the region would be considered an asset.

Additional Notes:
This position is for a contract duration of 180 working days over a period of one year. The consultant will work on an individual contractor basis, and the role is expected to be full-time. The recruitment process is open to both national and international candidates. Compensation will be commensurate with experience and qualifications, and benefits may include travel allowances and health insurance.
