Job Overview:
The position involves developing and piloting traceability systems for Non-Timber Forest Products (NTFPs) that are sustainable and deforestation-free. This initiative is specifically targeted at four districts in Vietnam's Lam Dong and Dak Nong provinces. The consultant will be responsible for creating systems that ensure the traceability of specific NTFPs, including Gnetum Gnemon, Codonopsis pilosula, and Bambusa oldhamii. The assignment is expected to run from June to October 2025, and the consultant will need to engage with local stakeholders to ensure the systems are effective and meet the needs of the communities involved in the production and trade of these products.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The consultant will be tasked with several key responsibilities, including:
  • Conducting a comprehensive assessment of the current state of NTFP production and trade in the specified districts.
  • Collaborating with local communities, government agencies, and other stakeholders to gather data and insights necessary for developing the traceability systems.
  • Designing and implementing traceability systems that are user-friendly and effective in tracking the production and trade of NTFPs.
  • Piloting the developed systems in the selected districts and gathering feedback for improvements.
  • Providing training and support to local stakeholders on how to use the traceability systems effectively.
  • Documenting the process and outcomes of the pilot project to inform future initiatives and share best practices.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a strong background in sustainable development, forestry, or a related field. They should have experience in developing traceability systems or similar frameworks, particularly in the context of natural resource management. Familiarity with the socio-economic dynamics of rural communities in Vietnam is essential. Additionally, candidates should demonstrate strong analytical skills, the ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders, and excellent communication skills.

Educational Background:
A minimum of a Master's degree in environmental science, sustainable development, forestry, or a related field is required. Candidates with a PhD or equivalent experience in relevant areas will be given preference. Relevant certifications in project management or sustainable resource management may also be advantageous.

Experience:
The ideal candidate should have at least 5 years of professional experience in sustainable development projects, particularly those focused on natural resource management or agricultural systems. Experience working with local communities in Vietnam or similar contexts is highly desirable. Proven track record in developing and implementing traceability systems or similar initiatives will be a significant asset.

Languages:
Fluency in Vietnamese is mandatory, as the consultant will be working closely with local communities and stakeholders. Proficiency in English is also required for reporting and communication with UNDP and other international partners. Knowledge of additional languages spoken in the region may be considered an advantage.

This position is classified as an individual contractor role, and the assignment is expected to last from June to October 202
  • The consultant will be expected to work full-time during this period, with specific deliverables outlined in the contract. Compensation will be commensurate with experience and qualifications, and the consultant will be responsible for their own taxes and benefits.
