Job Overview: The Public Information Officer will work under the direct supervision of the Communications and Publications Officer and the authority of the Director of UNESCO New Delhi. The primary function of this position is to assist in the development and implementation of external communications strategies for UNESCO New Delhi. This includes managing social and digital media, public relations, branding, and publications. The officer will be responsible for creating and disseminating information that promotes the organization's objectives and activities, ensuring that the public is well-informed about UNESCO's initiatives and impact.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Assist in preparing public information materials such as brochures, press kits, articles, press releases, and annual reports as needed. Manage and update content on the UNESCO website to ensure clarity and relevance.
Produce advocacy and communication materials, including images, videos, and social media posts, adhering to UNESCO standards.
Generate and edit news content in various formats for dissemination across multiple platforms. Provide communication support for seminars, lectures, conferences, and public events related to UNESCO's work.
Maintain relationships with media representatives to promote the organization's activities and ensure accurate information dissemination.
Design and implement digital media campaigns that align with UNESCO's priorities.
Promote and track the branding of UNESCO New Delhi through social media networks and provide additional information as required.
Develop partnerships to enhance the digital presence of the office.
Stay updated on social media trends and provide strategies to measure the impact of social media activities.
Foster collaborative relationships with colleagues and external stakeholders to promote UNESCO's work. Produce success stories and case studies for UN joint program activities and communicate progress online. 1
Maintain a photo database that reflects UNESCO's work and coordinate with service providers for various communication needs. 1
Perform any other duties as requested by the supervisor and Director of UNESCO New Delhi.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a Bachelor's degree in mass communication, journalism, public relations, or a related field. A solid understanding of development issues and experience in international development bodies will be considered an asset. Candidates should have a proven track record in managing the production of printed materials, including detailed reports, and experience with website management. Demonstrated experience in media relations, communication planning, and content development for various media formats is essential. Proficiency in office software packages, including PowerPoint and Excel, as well as basic design software, is required.
Educational Background: A Bachelor's degree in mass communication, journalism, public relations, or a related field is mandatory. Equivalent qualifications may also be considered.
Experience: At least 2 years of relevant work experience is required. Previous experience in international development organizations will be viewed favorably. Candidates should have a solid understanding of development issues and experience in managing communication and media outreach plans.
Languages: Excellent drafting skills in English are mandatory. Knowledge of another UN official language is considered an asset and will enhance a candidate's profile.
Additional Notes: The contract duration is initially set for 1 year, with a probation period of 3 months. There is a possibility of extension based on performance and availability of funds. The position offers a gross monthly starting salary of INR 102,013, which includes social security contributions. Benefits include 30 days of annual leave and 24 days of certified sick leave.
