Job Overview: The Project Assistant (Operations) will play a crucial role in the HELIOS+ project, which aims to facilitate the integration of beneficiaries of international protection and temporary protection into Greek society. This position involves close collaboration with national and local authorities, as well as experienced partners, to implement various project activities. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing interpretation and translation services, making initial contact with beneficiaries, and building respectful and trusting relationships with them. The role also includes responding to calls received on the project’s helpline, identifying issues, and reporting them to the Project Assistant. The Project Assistant will work to ensure that beneficiaries can access the full range of services available to them, translating necessary documents and information materials, and assisting in mediation activities. This position requires a proactive approach to support project staff during activities in HELIOS+ Centers and other locations as needed.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Provide interpretation and translation services to beneficiaries of the HELIOS+ project.
Make initial contact with beneficiaries and establish a respectful and trusting relationship.
Respond to calls received on the project’s helpline, identify issues, and report them to the Project Assistant (Operations).
Maintain records of calls in the helpline tracker.
Develop and maintain good relations with beneficiaries, stakeholders, and other humanitarian actors.
Identify gaps and barriers that prevent beneficiaries from accessing services.
Translate documents and information materials for project beneficiaries.
Assist in mediation activities in collaboration with IOM staff.
Provide general assistance to project staff during HELIOS+ activities. 1
Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Required Qualifications:
High school degree/certificate with a minimum of one year of relevant work experience.
A university degree from an accredited academic institution is an advantage.
Previous work experience in a similar role is required.
Adequate combination of knowledge, education, training, and skills to perform essential functions of the position.
Experience in a multi-cultural environment is preferred.
Strong work ethics and commitment to humanitarian principles are essential.
A valid driver’s license with at least five years of driving experience is an advantage.
Educational Background: Candidates must possess at least a high school degree or certificate, with a preference for those holding a university degree from an accredited institution. Accredited universities are those listed in the UNESCO World Higher Education Database, which ensures that the educational qualifications meet international standards.
Experience: Candidates should have previous work experience in a similar role, demonstrating an adequate combination of knowledge, education, training, and skills necessary to perform the essential functions of the position. Experience working in a multi-cultural environment is preferred, as it will enhance the candidate's ability to interact effectively with diverse groups of beneficiaries and stakeholders.
Languages: Fluency in English and/or Greek (both written and oral) is required for this position. Additionally, fluency in one or more of the following languages is required: Arabic, Dari/Farsi, or Kurmanji. Candidates who are fluent in two or more of these languages will be considered to have an asset. The proficiency of the required languages will be specifically evaluated during the selection process, which may include written and/or oral assessments.
Additional Notes: This position is subject to local recruitment, and only candidates holding a valid residence and work permit for Greece will be eligible for consideration.
