Job Overview: The Communications and Partnerships Development Specialist will be stationed at the UNFPA Mozambique Country Office in Maputo, reporting directly to the UNFPA Representative. This role is pivotal in developing, implementing, and monitoring effective communication, partnership, and resource mobilization strategies for UNFPA Mozambique. The Specialist will raise visibility and awareness of UNFPA's transformative agenda goals and work in Mozambique, which includes ending preventable maternal deaths, unmet needs for family planning, and gender-based violence. The position requires a proactive approach to communication and advocacy, establishing networks with internal and external partners to support the UNFPA country programme. The Specialist will also facilitate knowledge transfer and capacity development to enhance fundraising efforts for the Country Office.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Specialist's responsibilities include developing and implementing the Country Office communication strategy, reviewing and updating the strategy in consultation with senior management, and supervising its implementation. They will create communication tools for UNFPA staff, manage publication activities, develop communication materials, and maintain media contacts. The Specialist will also support the development of the new Country Programme, enhance partnerships, and resource mobilization strategies, and supervise the Communications Unit, including managing personnel and ensuring effective collaboration across programs. Additionally, they will undertake other duties as assigned by senior management.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a minimum of 5 years of professional experience in communication, media relations, or public relations, with a proven track record of building relationships with journalists and managing public events. They should have experience in internal communications, producing printed materials, and working with diverse partners. Strong conceptual and analytical abilities, sound judgment, and excellent organizational skills are essential. Proficiency in using office software and web-based management systems is also required.
Educational Background: An advanced degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Political Sciences, Social Sciences, or a related field is required for this position. This educational background is crucial for understanding the complexities of communication strategies and advocacy efforts in a diverse and challenging environment.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of 5 years of relevant professional experience in communication and public relations. Candidates should have experience in managing media relations, organizing press events, and developing communication strategies. Familiarity with UNFPA programs and policies is considered an asset, as is experience in capacity development for partners and staff.
Languages: Excellent oral and written communication skills in both Portuguese and English are mandatory for this role. Knowledge of additional Romance languages such as Spanish, Italian, or French is desirable and would be beneficial in enhancing communication efforts with diverse stakeholders.
