Job Overview: The Operations Officer - Climate Change Specialist will play a crucial role in supporting the real sector and industrial transition in East Asia and Pacific (EAP) client countries. This position is integral to the Country Advisory and Economics Unit (CEAAE), which focuses on developing diagnostics and supporting targeted reforms to remove market barriers that hinder private sector growth. The specialist will be responsible for engaging with government clients to understand and implement decarbonization technologies, promoting circular economy practices, and facilitating access to climate finance for decarbonization projects. The ideal candidate will possess a blend of sector expertise and technical knowledge, along with strong advisory and consulting experience, particularly in industrial decarbonization and climate finance.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Operations Officer will have a diverse set of responsibilities, including:
Supporting government clients in understanding decarbonization technologies and identifying regulatory reforms to enhance their adoption.
Collaborating with IFC’s Climate Business Department and industry teams to diagnose regulatory barriers and designadvisory services that enable necessary reforms for private investment in climate change initiatives.
Identifying and developing advisory projects that promote circular economy practices, including the use of renewable inputs and waste recycling.
Facilitating the development of carbon markets and assisting in accessing climate finance for decarbonization projects.
Preparing knowledge materials on best practices for increasing private investment in climate adaptation and mitigation.
Maintaining a matrix of country-specific reform needs and advocating for these reforms with in-country teams and the World Bank.
Developing relationships with private sector clients and stakeholders to grow the business and maintain effective communication.
Participating in conferences and workshops as an expert speaker to share knowledge and insights.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a Master's degree in environmental sciences, engineering, business, finance, public policy, economics, or a related field specific to climate science or sustainable finance. Additionally, a minimum of 10 years of relevant experience working with governments and the private sector on decarbonization strategies, sustainability, and climate science is required. A deep understanding of climate business opportunities, particularly from a private sector perspective, is essential. Candidates should also have robust expertise in carbon markets and related legal frameworks, as well as knowledge of climate financing products.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes a Master's degree in a relevant field such as environmental sciences, engineering, business, finance, public policy, economics, or a specialized area related to climate science or sustainable finance. This advanced education is crucial for understanding the complexities of climate change and its impact on economic development.
Experience: The position requires at least 10 years of relevant experience, particularly in working with governments and the private sector on strategies related to decarbonization, sustainability, and climate science.
