Job Overview:
The Climate Change Specialist position focuses on the assessment of Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC) related to climate action in Cabo Verde. The specialist will be responsible for reviewing the implementation of NDCs, which involves evaluating the progress made, identifying challenges faced, and uncovering opportunities for enhancing climate action. This role is crucial in the context of the Climate Promise 2 initiative, which aims to support countries in their climate commitments. The specialist will lead the development of a comprehensive assessment report that will provide insights into the effectiveness of climate finance and the engagement of the private sector in climate initiatives. Collaboration with various stakeholders, including government ministries, development partners, and secretariats, is essential to ensure a thorough and accurate evaluation of the NDC implementation process. The position requires a strong understanding of climate policies and the ability to synthesize complex information into actionable recommendations.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the Climate Change Specialist include:
  • Conducting a thorough review of Cabo Verde's NDC implementation, focusing on climate finance and private sector engagement.
  • Collaborating with relevant ministries and stakeholders to gather data and insights on the progress and challenges of NDC implementation.
  • Developing a detailed assessment report that evaluates the current state of climate action in Cabo Verde, highlighting key findings and recommendations.
  • Engaging with development partners to align efforts and share best practices in climate action.
  • Facilitating workshops and discussions to disseminate findings and gather feedback from stakeholders.
  • Providing technical expertise and guidance on climate policy and financing mechanisms.
  • Ensuring that the assessment aligns with international climate agreements and frameworks.
  • Preparing presentations and reports for various audiences, including government officials and international organizations.

Required Qualifications:
The required qualifications for the Climate Change Specialist position include:
  • A strong background in climate science, environmental policy, or a related field.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, as it is the primary language of communication for this position. Proficiency in Portuguese is highly desirable, given the location of the job in Cabo Verde. Additional Notes:
This position is an individual consultancy role with a contract duration of 60 working days. The consultant will be expected to work flexibly, coordinating with various stakeholders and adapting to the needs of the project. The position is not full-time, allowing for a balance between consultancy work and other commitments.
