Job Overview:
The Intern in Communications will work under the guidance of the Communications Officer, delivering client-focused services in the area of communications. This role involves close collaboration with the UNDP Country Office Communications Unit and project communication specialists. The intern will support the technical production of communication and advocacy materials for UNDP projects, design communications products for social media, promote UNDP's presence on social media platforms, and assist in organizing public events related to project implementation. The intern will also contribute to the development of weekly communications plans and assist in producing high-quality written content for various media channels in English, Kyrgyz, and Russian. This position is ideal for individuals looking to gain hands-on experience in communications within an international development context.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The intern's primary responsibilities include:
  • Supporting the technical production of communication and advocacy materials for UNDP projects.
  • Designing communication products tailored for social media channels.
  • Promoting and enhancing UNDP's presence on social media networks.
  • Assisting in the organization and execution of public events related to project implementation.
  • Contributing to the development and coordination of weekly communications plans.
  • Providing high-quality writing, editing, and proofreading for social media content.
  • Conducting digital outreach in Kyrgyz, Russian, and English.
  • Assisting in the production of video reels on key UNDP topics, ensuring they are accessible and engaging for various social media platforms.
  • Producing photo essays that highlight UNDP's key areas of work. 1
  • Writing stories, articles, blogs, and press releases in English and Kyrgyz/Russian. 1
  • Performing other duties as assigned to ensure the efficient functioning of the office.

Required Qualifications:
To qualify for the UNDP internship-programme" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">internship programme, applicants must meet one of the following criteria: (a) Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme in Media, Communications, Journalism, or Public Relations; (b) Be enrolled in a postgraduate degree programme in the same fields; (c) Have recently graduated with a relevant university degree and must start the internship within one year of graduation. Additionally, candidates should have experience working with UNDP or other UN agencies, producing video content, and writing texts, with a strong emphasis on providing links to published works as part of their application.

Educational Background:
Candidates must be pursuing or have completed a degree in Media, Communications, Journalism, or Public Relations. This includes those in their final year of undergraduate studies or those enrolled in postgraduate programmes. Recent graduates are also eligible, provided they start the internship within one year of graduation.

Experience:
The ideal candidate should have experience working with UNDP or other UN agencies, which is considered an asset. Experience in producing video reels, photography, and design is strongly desired. Candidates should provide links to their published works, including videos, photos, and designs, as part of their application. Strong writing skills are essential, and applicants should submit writing samples to demonstrate their capabilities.

Languages:
Proficiency in English, Russian, and Kyrgyz is required for this position. Candidates must be able to communicate effectively in all three languages, particularly in writing and editing social media content.

Additional Notes:
The internship will provide a monthly stipend; however, UNDP will not sponsor visas or work permits, and the intern must be based in Bishkek for the duration of the assignment. UNDP will not provide personal computers or other equipment, and the usual working hours are from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM. The organization maintains a zero-tolerance policy towards sexual exploitation and misconduct, and all selected candidates will undergo rigorous reference and background checks.
