Job Posting Organization:

Job Overview:
The Senior Gender Affairs Officer will play a crucial role in advising the Personal Envoy of the Secretary-General and senior management on issues related to women, peace, and security. This position requires the officer to mainstream a gender perspective into the office's tasks and engage with international, regional, and national actors to ensure women's participation in all phases of peace and political processes in Sudan. The officer will also be responsible for developing action plans, monitoring and evaluating gender mainstreaming efforts, and reporting on gender activities. The role demands a strong analytical ability to provide insights for data-driven decision-making and to represent the office in relevant discussions.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Senior Gender Affairs Officer will be responsible for providing specialized advice on gender mainstreaming and women, peace, and security issues. Key duties include assisting leadership in engaging with stakeholders, ensuring effective implementation of gender equality mandates, supervising the development of action plans, and overseeing mechanisms for monitoring and reporting on gender issues. The officer will also assist in addressing Conflict Related Sexual Violence and Sexual and Gender-Based Violence, report regularly to senior management, and lead efforts in data collection and analysis to inform planning and decision-making. Additional responsibilities include performing related work as required.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a strong background in gender equality promotion, with a minimum of ten years of progressively responsible experience in policy, advisory, and program management roles at both national and international levels. At least five years of this experience should be at the international level, with a proven track record of integrating gender perspectives into mainstream policies or programs. Experience advising senior leadership on gender and women, peace, and security issues is essential, along with experience in field operations of the United Nations or similar organizations.

Educational Background:
An advanced university degree (Master's or equivalent) in international relations, human rights law, social science, or a related field is required. A first-level university degree combined with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced degree. Successful completion of programs in data analytics, business analytics, or data science is desirable, indicating a strong analytical capability.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of ten years of relevant experience, with at least five years at the international level. Candidates should have experience in integrating gender perspectives into policies and programs, advising senior leadership on gender issues, and working in field operations of the United Nations or similar organizations. Experience in mediation efforts and peace and security issues in the Horn of Africa is also desirable, along with familiarity with data analytics.

Languages:
Fluency in English (both oral and written) is mandatory for this position, as English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is considered desirable, enhancing the candidate's profile for the role.
