Job Overview: The consultant will play a crucial role in supporting the UN-Habitat's initiatives related to solid waste management in Colombia. This position involves providing technical recommendations and engaging with stakeholders at both national and local levels to ensure the successful implementation of projects. The consultant will be responsible for conducting policy reviews, facilitating participatory spaces, and collaborating with team members to achieve project objectives. The role requires a proactive approach to knowledge transfer and the ability to navigate complex project cycles while ensuring compliance with UN standards and procedures.
Duties and Responsibilities: The consultant's duties include keeping the HUB Coordinator informed about project activities, providing technical inputs, leading participatory development efforts, conducting literature reviews, and collaborating with various stakeholders. The consultant will also be responsible for supporting project approval processes, attending technical meetings, providing information to UN-Habitat, and ensuring compliance with project guidelines. Additionally, the consultant will engage in knowledge management activities, propose efficient project implementation formats, and prepare reports related to project activities. The role also involves conducting research to facilitate information exchange on sustainable urban development and identifying strategic allies for the New Urban Agenda.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Waste Management, or related fields. A postgraduate degree in project management, solid waste management, circular economy, sustainable development, or related fields is preferred. Alternatively, candidates with an additional four years of relevant experience may be considered in lieu of an advanced degree. A minimum of five years of work experience in studies, consultancies, or project management in solid waste or related fields is required, along with at least two years of experience in developing or reviewing municipal programs in integrated waste management.
Educational Background: The educational requirements for this position include a Bachelor's degree in relevant fields such as Environmental Science or Engineering. A postgraduate degree in areas related to project management or sustainable development is highly desirable. Candidates with extensive experience in lieu of an advanced degree will also be considered, emphasizing the importance of practical knowledge and skills in the field of solid waste management.
Experience: Candidates should have a minimum of five years of relevant work experience, particularly in the development of studies, consultancies, or project management in solid waste management. Experience in developing or reviewing municipal programs in integrated waste management is essential, with a preference for candidates who have participated in formulating technical instruments in Colombia related to solid waste management.
