Job Overview: The intern position at UNDP China is designed to provide technical, analytical, and logistical support for research products and dialogue events. The intern will work closely with the Strategic Partnership and Policy Team, contributing to the compilation, analysis, and interpretation of data related to socio-economic policies, rural development, climate and environmental issues, and SDG finance. The role involves assisting in the preparation of policy briefs, coordinating publication launch events, and advocating for the localization of the SDGs through research and participation in relevant forums. The intern will also support office-wide activities and engage in cross-team coordination functions as directed by senior management. This internship is a full-time position requiring a commitment of five days per week, with at least four days spent at UNDP offices.
Duties and Responsibilities: The intern will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including but not limited to: compiling, collating, and analyzing data on socio-economic policies and development issues; assisting in the preparation of policy briefs and knowledge products; coordinating publication launch events and policy dialogues; advocating for the localization of the SDGs; participating in forums, conferences, and training sessions; managing events and publications related to economic issues; and supporting office-wide activities such as employee association initiatives and green commitment activities. The intern may also be assigned additional tasks as needed by the supervisor.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a strong interest in development and demonstrate integrity by modeling the UN’s values and ethical standards. They should have the ability to manage diverse and complex tasks under tight deadlines, value both research and administrative tasks, and manage coordination and logistics with minimal supervision. Strong writing and data management skills, along with excellent organizational, interpersonal, communication, and administrative skills, are essential. The ability to work collaboratively with colleagues to achieve organizational goals is also important.
Educational Background: Candidates should be pursuing a degree in International Development, Economics, Social Sciences, International Relations, Climate Science, Environmental Studies, Business and Management, or a related field. They must meet one of the following educational requirements: be enrolled in a Master's or PhD program, be in the final year of a Bachelor’s program, or have graduated within the last year from a Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD program. Alternatively, candidates may be enrolled in a postgraduate professional traineeship program and undertake the internship as part of this program.
Experience: Experience in developing research communication products is considered an advantage for candidates applying for this internship. While prior experience is not strictly required, familiarity with research methodologies and data analysis will be beneficial.
Languages: Excellent written and spoken proficiency in both Chinese and English is mandatory for this position. Candidates should be able to communicate effectively in both languages, as the role involves preparing documents and engaging in discussions in both languages.
Additional Notes: The internship is a full-time position requiring a commitment of 35 hours per week, with interns expected to work at least four days at UNDP offices. Interns must provide proof of enrollment in a health insurance plan and a medical certificate of good health prior to starting the internship. The stipend will be paid monthly, and interns will be entitled to 1.5 days of leave per month. It is the responsibility of the intern to obtain necessary visas and arrange travel to and from the duty station. Costs related to travel, visas, accommodations, and living expenses are the responsibility of the intern or their sponsoring institution. Interns must not apply for or be appointed to a position that should be encumbered by a staff number during the internship period. Additionally, interns are expected to fulfill the terms of their internships without interruption for job applications.
