Job Overview:
The position of Consultant is part of the initiative 'Living Legacies: Tales of Culture and Resilience,' which is a collaborative effort between UNESCO's Regional Office for East Asia and the International Information and Networking Centre for Intangible Cultural Heritage in the Asia-Pacific Region (ICHCAP). This initiative focuses on raising awareness about the connections between intangible cultural heritage and climate change. The consultant will be responsible for collecting personal narratives that illustrate how communities are affected by climate change and how they respond through cultural practices. The role involves developing a curated exhibition that presents these stories in an engaging manner, both virtually and physically. The consultant will need to communicate effectively with various stakeholders and ensure that the narratives collected are representative of diverse experiences across Asia and the Pacific.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The consultant will be tasked with several key responsibilities, including:
  • Conducting an open call for stories across Asia and the Pacific to gather personal narratives related to climate change and cultural heritage.
  • Developing a methodology for selecting and curating the stories that will be featured in the exhibition.
  • Collaborating with communities to ensure their voices are accurately represented and that their stories are communicated effectively.
  • Creating engaging content that highlights the interconnections between cultural practices and climate action.
  • Designing the exhibition layout and ensuring that it is audience-friendly and accessible.
  • Working closely with UNESCO and ICHCAP teams to align the exhibition with organizational goals and values.
  • Providing regular updates and reports on progress to the hiring unit.
  • Ensuring that all work adheres to UNESCO's standards of efficiency, technical competence, and integrity.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a strong background in cultural heritage, climate change, or a related field. They should have demonstrated experience in storytelling, content development, and exhibition design. Additionally, the consultant should have excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, and the ability to work collaboratively with diverse groups. A proven track record of working on similar projects or initiatives will be highly regarded. Familiarity with the UNESCO framework and values is also essential for this role.

Educational Background:
The ideal candidate should hold at least a master's degree in cultural studies, environmental studies, communications, or a related discipline. A strong academic background in areas related to intangible cultural heritage or climate change will be advantageous. Relevant certifications or training in storytelling, exhibition design, or project management may also be beneficial.

Experience:
The consultant should have a minimum of 5 years of professional experience in fields related to cultural heritage, climate change, or communications. Experience working with international organizations, particularly in a consultancy capacity, is preferred. The candidate should also have a history of successfully managing projects from conception to execution, demonstrating the ability to meet deadlines and work under pressure.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, as all communications and documentation will be conducted in this language. Proficiency in additional languages, particularly those spoken in the Asia-Pacific region, is considered an asset and may enhance the consultant's ability to engage with diverse communities.

Additional Notes:
This position is offered as a consultant contract at Level 2 - Middle, with a duration of 2 months. The role is open to external candidates, and the work location is primarily remote, although the consultant may need to engage with stakeholders in Beijing.
