Job Overview:

Interns will be supervised by a staff member and will have the opportunity to engage in various tasks that align with their academic background and the needs of the division they are assigned to. This internship is unpaid, and candidates should be prepared to cover their own expenses related to travel, accommodation, and living costs.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Interns will be responsible for a variety of tasks that may include:
  • Providing support to ongoing projects related to sustainable agricultural mechanization;
  • Assisting in social media outreach efforts to promote ESCAP's initiatives;
  • Offering administrative support to the division or office;
  • Working on presentations and reports to communicate project outcomes;
  • Consolidating and sorting data to assist in research and analysis;
  • Engaging in knowledge sharing and information exchange among member states;
  • Participating in meetings and contributing to discussions as appropriate;
  • Completing any other tasks as assigned by the supervising staff member.

Required Qualifications:
Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent). Candidates should possess strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment. Proficiency in using standard office software and tools is also expected.

Educational Background:
Candidates should have a background in fields relevant to sustainable development, agricultural sciences, environmental studies, social sciences, or related disciplines. A graduate degree or a bachelor's degree nearing completion is required, ensuring that interns have the necessary academic foundation to contribute effectively to the work of ESCAP.

Experience:
While prior work experience is not mandatory, any relevant internships, volunteer work, or academic projects related to sustainable development, agricultural mechanization, or international relations will be considered an asset. Interns should demonstrate a willingness to learn and adapt to a professional setting, as well as the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively.

Languages:
Fluency in English is required for the internship programme, as it is one of the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Knowledge of French is also beneficial, as it is another working language. Candidates who can communicate effectively in both languages will have an advantage in this role.
