Duties and Responsibilities: The duties and responsibilities of the International Consultant for African Carbon Markets include:
Conducting comprehensive assessments of existing carbon market frameworks in selected African countries.
Identifying barriers and opportunities for the development of carbon markets in the region.
Engaging with government officials, private sector stakeholders, and civil society organizations to gather insights and foster collaboration.
Developing policy recommendations and strategic frameworks to enhance carbon market mechanisms.
Preparing detailed reports and presentations summarizing findings and recommendations.
Facilitating workshops and training sessions to build capacity among stakeholders on carbon market principles and practices.
Monitoring and evaluating the implementation of carbon market strategies and providing ongoing support as needed.
Collaborating with UNDP teams to ensure alignment with broader climate change initiatives and sustainable development goals.
Required Qualifications: The position requires a range of qualifications, including:
Advanced degree in environmental science, economics, public policy, or a related field.
Strong analytical skills and the ability to synthesize complex information into actionable recommendations.

Experience: The ideal candidate should have a minimum of 5-7 years of professional experience in the field of carbon markets, climate finance, or environmental policy. Experience working with international organizations, government agencies, or NGOs in the context of climate change and sustainable development is highly desirable. Proven track record of successfully managing consultancy projects and delivering high-quality outputs within stipulated timelines is essential.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory, as it is the working language of the UNDP. Proficiency in additional languages, particularly French or Portuguese, is considered an asset, given the multilingual context of many African countries. Strong writing and presentation skills in English are crucial for effective communication of findings and recommendations.
Additional Notes: This consultancy position is for a fixed term of four months, and it is expected to be a full-time engagement. The consultant will work remotely but may be required to travel to specific locations within Africa for stakeholder consultations and workshops, depending on the project needs.
