Job Overview:
The position of Expert(e) en finance de la Biodiversité involves providing specialized knowledge and expertise in biodiversity finance. The expert will be responsible for developing financial strategies that support biodiversity conservation and sustainable use of natural resources. This role requires a deep understanding of financial mechanisms that can be leveraged to support biodiversity initiatives, including public and private financing, investment strategies, and innovative funding solutions. The expert will work closely with various stakeholders, including government agencies, NGOs, and the private sector, to promote sustainable practices and ensure that biodiversity considerations are integrated into financial planning and decision-making processes. The position is expected to last for a period of 12 months, during which the expert will contribute to the development and implementation of projects aimed at enhancing biodiversity finance in Burundi.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the Expert(e) en finance de la Biodiversité include:
  • Conducting assessments of current biodiversity financing mechanisms and identifying gaps and opportunities for improvement.
  • Developing and implementing financial strategies that align with national biodiversity goals and objectives.
  • Collaborating with stakeholders to mobilize resources for biodiversity initiatives, including identifying potential funding sources and developing proposals.
  • Providing technical assistance and capacity building to government agencies and other stakeholders on biodiversity finance.
  • Monitoring and evaluating the effectiveness of biodiversity finance initiatives and reporting on progress.
  • Engaging in policy dialogue and advocacy to promote the integration of biodiversity considerations into national and local financial policies.
  • Preparing reports and presentations to communicate findings and recommendations to stakeholders.

Required Qualifications:
The required qualifications for this position include a strong background in finance, economics, or a related field, with specific expertise in biodiversity finance. Candidates should possess excellent analytical skills and the ability to develop innovative financial solutions for biodiversity conservation. Strong communication and interpersonal skills are essential for engaging with diverse stakeholders and facilitating collaboration. Additionally, candidates should demonstrate a commitment to sustainable development and a deep understanding of the challenges and opportunities related to biodiversity finance.

Educational Background:
Candidates for the Expert(e) en finance de la Biodiversité position should have at least a Master's degree in finance, economics, environmental science, or a related field. A PhD or equivalent advanced degree is preferred, particularly for those with extensive experience in biodiversity finance or related areas. Relevant certifications in finance or environmental management would be an asset.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of 5 years of professional experience in finance, with a focus on biodiversity or environmental finance. Candidates should have a proven track record of developing and implementing financial strategies for biodiversity conservation, as well as experience working with government agencies, NGOs, and the private sector. Experience in project management and capacity building is also highly desirable.

Languages:
Fluency in French is mandatory for this position, given the location and the primary language of communication in Burundi. Proficiency in English is also highly desirable, as it will facilitate engagement with international stakeholders and access to global resources and knowledge. Knowledge of additional languages spoken in the region would be considered an asset.

Additional Notes:
This position is a full-time contract for a duration of 12 months. The expert will be expected to work closely with the UNDP office in Burundi and may be required to travel within the country as part of their duties. The position is open to both national and international candidates, and compensation will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.
